    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes an active matrix substrate, a counter substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The active matrix substrate includes an alignment film defining an initial alignment azimuth, and a first electrode and a second electrode to generate a fringing field. The counter substrate includes a transparent substrate and a third electrode provided on a side of the transparent substrate closer to the liquid crystal layer. The first electrode is a pixel electrode, and the second electrode is a common electrode. A DC voltage Vd is applied to the third electrode, the DC voltage Vd being different from a common voltage Vcom which is applied to the common electrode.

    Abstract: A method is provided that includes capturing an input handwritten character with parameter representation for each stroke and applying a polygonal approximation thereto; assuming each polygonal line segment approximated to be vector that reaches an end point from a start point, and obtaining an angle between an axis that becomes a reference and each line segment as a polygonal line segment angle sequence; obtaining an exterior angle sequence of vertices of the line segments; making a sum of exterior angles of the same sign, where the same sign of plus or minus in the exterior angle sequence continues, to be a winding angle sequence; extracting a global feature according to each obtained sequence and a localized or quasi-localized feature in each curved portion divided corresponding to the winding angle sequence, hierarchically and divisionally; and performing character recognition by comparing the extracted result with a template of an object character.

The outside and inside of the housing are covered and filled with an insulator, so that, upon occurrence of an internal arc due to a short-circuit fault or the like, the energy due to the arc causes the lower electrode member to break the insulator in the vicinity of an opening portion of the conductive pressure-proof housing so as to electrically connect the conductive pressure-proof housing to a part of the lower electrode member.
