  • Patent number: 5942001
Abstract: Channel data obtained from a reproduced signal is input to a demodulation ROM as an address and demodulated. In the demodulated channel data, the data whose data pattern is not consistent with a 2-7 modulation method is recognized as an error data. When a resync code, given in the channel data at every 15 bytes is not detected within a predetermined time period, a resync code undetected signal is generated. The demodulated data is arranged in a matrix, and the position of the error data in the matrix and the resync code undetected generation position are specified. An error correction circuit carries out the error correction (erasure correction) by using these positions and an error correction code relating to one direction of a row or a column of the matrix.

  • Patent number: 5469417
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus records data on an optical disk or reproduces data therefrom. The optical disk has a plurality of zones each including a plurality of tracks, and the optical disk apparatus records or reproduces data with respect to the zones on the basis of clock signals having different frequencies. The optical disk apparatus comprises first and second phase comparators. The first phase comparator is a pull-in type and outputs a signal corresponding to the phase difference between a clock signal generated by a PLL circuit and a binary signal of reproduction data. The second phase comparator is a lock-in type and outputs a signal corresponding to the phase difference between a signal obtained by frequency-dividing the clock signal generated by the PLL circuit and a signal obtained by frequency-dividing a fundamental clock signal.

  • Patent number: 5452279
Abstract: The recording scheme of an optical disk is initially determined by a cartridge identifier housing the optical disk. The optical disk is then rotated at a rotational speed corresponding to the initially determined recording scheme, and a signal processing circuit is switched. Management data recorded on the optical disk is read to also determine the recording scheme, thereby improving the reliability of the determination. When no management data can be read, a recording scheme and associated rotational speed are changed. The management data representing the recording scheme is then read according to the changed recording scheme. A medium type determined based on the management data has priority over that of the medium type obtained by the identifier of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5410522
Abstract: An apparatus, having a spindle motor for rotating a circular optical disk, for recording information on the optical disk rotated by the spindle motor, and reproducing information recorded on the optical disk, wherein whether the recording scheme of the optical disk is a mark interval or mark length recording scheme is discriminated, and information is recorded or recorded information is reproduced while the optical disk is rotated at a rotational speed corresponding to the discriminated recording scheme. In an apparatus for recording/reproducing information in accordance with both the mark interval and mark length recording schemes, a signal amplifier, a demodulation circuit, a modulation circuit, an error correction circuit, a buffer memory, an interface circuit, and the like can be commonly used between the two recording schemes, thereby decreasing the number of signal processing circuits.

  • Patent number: 5359585
Abstract: The present invention aims at preventing erroneous data reproduction even when the amplitude center of a signal of a data part read out from an optical disc is displaced. An information reproducing apparatus comprises read means for reading data stored in each of block units on an optical disc and outputting a read signal, digitizing means for digitizing the read signal by using a slice level, generating means for comparing the signal digitized by the digitizing means and clock signals output at predetermined intervals, thereby generating a charge width signal representing a phase difference between the digitized signal and the clock signals, while the data stored in a data storing portion of the block unit is read by the read means, and changing means for changing the slice level of the digitizing means on the basis of the charge width signal generated by the generating means.

  • Patent number: 5339303
Abstract: In this invention, in an optical disk on which information is recorded by a mark length recording method, an average value of detection signals of sync codes recorded on the optical disk beforehand is calculated, and a difference between the average value and a level "0" is determined to be a bias voltage. The bias voltage is superposed on a detection signal of the recorded information, and the signal is binarized by the level "0".
