  • Publication number: 20150317092
Abstract: There is provided a disk array system including an EXP (Expander) for connecting a plurality of memory devices in a daisy chain fashion, through a plurality of cables in which CC (electrical signal cable) and AOC (optical signal cable) are mixed. The EXP accesses a cable built-in MEM, determines whether the cable is CC or AOC from the acquired CABLE information, sets the appropriate protocol and parameters based on a determination result, identifies the EXP requiring a frame-to-frame connection based on an SAS address, and acquires the CABLE information only for the cable to be connected to the EXP to make an appropriate setting.

  • Patent number: 9116859
Abstract: According to the conventional art disk array system, when a drive box of a first chassis is blocked, all the drive boxes of a second chassis connected subsequently therefrom will be blocked, and the data in the drive boxes arranged subsequently therefrom cannot be recovered based on the RAID configuration. Even if the data could be recovered based on RAID configuration, it is necessary to perform the recovery process based on RAID in all the subsequently arranged drive boxes, according to which the performance is deteriorated. The present system stores a first drive box in a first chassis out of a plurality of chassis, and a second drive box and a third drive box are stored in a second chassis. One of a plurality of expander controllers within the first drive box is connected to an expander controller in the second drive box, and the other expander controller is connected to an expander controller in the third drive box.

  • Patent number: 8190790
Abstract: Appropriate parameters can be efficiently set for network ports included in a storage apparatus. A storage apparatus performing I/O processing on a storage drive in response to an I/O request manages a first table in which a network device (SAS controller, SAS expander) is associated with location information of the network ports, a second table in which the cable length of a network cable coupled to each of the network ports is associated with a port ID of the network port, and a relationship between the cable length of the network cable and the parameter (output amplitude, pre-emphasis) set for the network port. The storage apparatus acquires the cable length of the network cable from the second table, determines the parameters corresponding to the acquired cable length from the above relationship, and sets the determined parameter for the network port.
