  • Patent number: 7990358
Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a display module includes a display screen divided in a vertical direction into screen regions in each of which an image can be independently displayed. A control device for controlling an image display operation of the display module includes: upper- and lower-screen data selectors for each dividing an input image signal in accordance with a corresponding one of the screen regions; and upper- and lower-screen time-division gradation conversion blocks for each generating a display signal for each of a plurality of sub-frames from an image signal, corresponding to a corresponding one of the screen regions, which is outputted from a corresponding one of the data selectors. This makes it possible to provide an image display device in which, even when a sub-frame display is carried out, the voltage of an image signal can be applied to a pixel for a longer time so as to be sufficiently applied to the pixel.

  • Publication number: 20110157477
Abstract: A control section divides a single frame so that a ratio of a period corresponding to a latter sub-frame and a period corresponding to a former sub-frame ranges from 1:3 to 1:7. A divisional point of the frame is a point which allows each of the latter sub-frame and the former sub-frame to minimize a difference between an actual brightness and an expected brightness. The frame may thus be divided at the point where the difference is largest in the normal hold display, so that it is possible to minimize the difference at this point. On this account, it is possible to reduce the difference in a single frame substantially by half as compared with an arrangement for carrying out the normal hold display, and thereby suppress the excess brightness caused by the difference.

  • Publication number: 20100328559
Abstract: An image displaying period of a 1st subframe of an Nth frame is partially overlapped with an image displaying period of a 2nd subframe of the Nth frame and an image displaying period of a 2nd subframe of an (N?1)th frame. For each of the subframes, a period of writing a pixel voltage into all horizontal lines in a display screen equals an image signal input period for inputting a single frame of the image signal. A delay period from (i) inputting of the Nth frame of the image signal for the horizontal lines to (ii) writing of the pixel voltage into the horizontal lines in the 1st subframe of the Nth frame is made as short as possible.

  • Publication number: 20080180424
Abstract: In on embodiment of the present invention, an image displaying apparatus is disclosed which divides 1 frame into plural sub-frame periods, and modifies the image signals in the following manner in the case of receiving an image of a frame in which a region denoted by an image signal ? or an image signal close to the image signal ? and a region of another image signal ? or an image signal close to the image signal ? are adjacent to each other. Specifically, the image displaying apparatus carries out display, in at least one sub-frames period A, with a modified image signal so that the difference with the image signal of the other region becomes smaller, and in at least one other sub-frames period B, with a modified image signal so that the difference with the image signal of the other region becomes more significant, in the vicinity of the boundary between the region of the image signal ? and the region of the image signal ?.

  • Publication number: 20080129672
Abstract: A point at which the luminance varies between successive frames is detected with respect to an input image signal whose one-frame period is represented by a given gradation level. In a frame in which the luminance has just varied (i.e., in a post-change frame), the gradation level is corrected so that the lack of response of an image display panel is remedied (overshoot driving). In at least one embodiment, a sub-frame signal is generated in accordance with the signal whose gradation level has been corrected, so that an output gradation level to be outputted to the image display panel is obtained.
