  • Publication number: 20160190769
Abstract: A highly-coherent chip-based laser generating system includes a disk resonator incorporating a wedge structure fabricated from a silicon dioxide layer of a chip. The disk resonator is operable to generate a highly-coherent laser from a low-coherence optical pump input provided at an optical power level as low as 60 ?W. The disk resonator is fabricated with sub-micron cavity size control that allows generation of a highly-coherent laser using a controllable Stimulated Brillouin Scattering process that includes matching of a cavity free-spectral-range to a Brillouin shift frequency in silica. While providing several advantages due to fabrication on a chip, the highly-coherent laser produced by the disk resonator may feature a Schawlow-Townes noise level as low as 0.06 Hz2/Hz (measured with the coherent laser at a power level of about 400 ?W) and a technical noise that is at least 30 dB lower than the low-coherence optical pump input.

  • Publication number: 20160072258
Abstract: A structured light source comprising VCSEL arrays is configured in many different ways to project a structured illumination pattern into a region for 3 dimensional imaging and gesture recognition applications. One aspect of the invention describes methods to construct densely and ultra-densely packed VCSEL arrays with to produce high resolution structured illumination pattern. VCSEL arrays configured in many different regular and non-regular arrays together with techniques for producing addressable structured light source are extremely suited for generating structured illumination patterns in a programmed manner to combine steady state and time-dependent detection and imaging for better accuracy. Structured illumination patterns can be generated in customized shapes by incorporating differently shaped current confining apertures in VCSEL devices.

  • Patent number: 9075558
Abstract: Methods and devices for receiving input and presenting a user interface with two screens and an off screen gesture area. The device may have an off screen gesture area that accepts user input outside the display area. The interface inputs received in the off screen gesture are may have special handling and cause different display changes. Further, the device, having two screens, may receive user interface inputs that cross the seam between the two displays. To provide a display that acts like a single display area, the device can predict motions may cross the seam and then interrelate separate inputs on separate screens. The interrelated inputs can cause display changes as if the inputs were received as a single user interaction.

  • Patent number: 8997071
Abstract: A compiler implemented by a computer performs optimized division of work across heterogeneous processors. The compiler divides source code into code sections and characterizes each of the code sections based on pre-defined criteria. Each of the code sections is characterized as at least one of: allocate to a main processor, allocate to a processing element, allocate to one of a parameterized main processor and a parameterized processing element, and indeterminate. The compiler analyzes side-effects and costs of executing the code sections on allocated processors, and transforms the code sections based on results of the analyzing. The transforming includes re-characterizing the code sections for alternate execution in a runtime environment.
