  • Patent number: 11409950
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided to implement an annotation mechanism allows users to annotate documents with annotations for processing by a cognitive medical system. The annotation mechanism receives, via a user interface, a user selection of an electronic document for annotation, and determines one or more domains associated with the selected electronic document from an analysis of metadata associated with the selected electronic document. The annotation mechanism retrieves a predefined set of annotations associated with each determined domain, and presents the predefined set of annotations as user selectable elements. The annotation mechanism receives, via the user interface, a selection of one or more annotations in the predefined set of annotations to be associated with the selected portion of the selected electronic document, and generates annotation metadata associating the selected portion using the selected one or more annotations.

  • Publication number: 20210042390
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in data processing system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory, the at least one memory comprising instructions that are executed by the at least one processor to specifically configure the at least one processor to implement a common labeled annotated document converter. A transcription service receives a natural language electronic document to be annotated for processing by a cognitive computing system. The cognitive computing system performs natural language processing and cognitive analysis of features extracted from content of the natural language electronic document based on annotations associated with the natural language electronic document. The transcription service processes the natural language electronic document to convert the natural language electronic document from a first format of the natural language electronic document to a common labeled annotated document (CLAD) format.

  • Publication number: 20200388364
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided to implement a sentiment analysis mechanism for performing sentiment analysis of a medical event and a drug name within a medical document based on a medical context. The sentiment analysis mechanism analyzes a medical document to identify an occurrence of a medical event associated with a drug name and analyzes contextual content associated with the occurrence of the medical event and the drug name to identify one or more sentiment terms present in the contextual content. The sentiment analysis mechanism determines a sentiment associated with the medical event and drug name. The sentiment analysis mechanism generates medical clue metadata linking the sentiment with the medical event and the drug corresponding to the drug name and applies the medical clue metadata to analysis of other medical documents to identify sentiments associated with instances of the drug name or medical event in the other medical documents.
