    Abstract: An electroluminescent device has components comprising an electroluminescent panel (6), a DC power source (20), for example in the form of a rechargeable battery, and an inverter (22) connected to the DC power source to power the electroluminescent panel. The components are sealed together. Where the DC power source is rechargeable, the power source may include charging means (30), which charging means may be adapted to be coupled to an external power supply by means of electrical induction.
