Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car for travelling along a hoistway between a plurality of landings and passenger detection system. The passenger detection system includes at least one passenger detector configured for detecting the presence of at least one passenger in a detection range; and at least one indicator device. The at least one indicator device is configured for receiving a detection signal from the at least one passenger detector indicating the presence of at least one passenger in the detection range of the at least one passenger detector, and for outputting a notification indicating that at least one passenger is present in the detection range of the at least one passenger detector in response to receiving the detection signal from the at least one passenger detector.
