  • Patent number: 9112872
Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information by a communication device are disclosed and may include detecting a second handheld communication device that is within range of a first handheld communication device. It may be determined whether the second handheld communication device is authorized to communicate with the first handheld communication device, based on a list of authorized devices. The list of devices may be maintained at the first handheld communication device and may be created prior to the detecting and any prior communication between the first handheld communication device and the second handheld communication device. If the second handheld communication device is authorized, a direct communication link may be established between the first handheld communication device and the second handheld communication device. The link may be established without using an intermediate communication device that includes a bridging function, a routing function, and/or a switching function.

  • Patent number: 8965337
Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information within a network are disclosed. The method may include receiving at a first wireless handheld communication device (WHCD), a communication signal from an intermediate communication device comprising at least one identifier (ID) of at least a second WHCD authorized to communicate with the intermediate communication device. The first WHCD may maintain a list of identifiers for authorized devices that are allowed to communicate with the first WHCD. The first WHCD need not be paired with any device that is specified by the list of identifiers for authorized devices maintained by the first WHCD. A communication link may be established between the first WHCD and the second WHCD via the intermediate communication device, if the list of identifiers for authorized devices maintained by the first WHCD comprises the ID of the second WHCD.

  • Publication number: 20070287421
Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information within a network are disclosed. The method may include accessing by a first wireless handheld communication device (WHCD), a list of authorized devices maintained at a second WHCD when the first WHCD is within operating range of the second WHCD. The first WHCD may not be paired with the second WHCD. At least one authorized WHCD specified by the list of authorized devices may be outside an operating range of the first WHCD. The first WHCD may communicate information with at least one authorized WHCD via the second WHCD. The second WHCD may communicate information between the first WHCD and the at least one authorized WHCD. The first WHCD may receive a communication signal from the second WHCD and the communication signal may include an identifier (ID) of the second WHCD and/or an ID of the at least one authorized WHCD.

  • Publication number: 20070286135
Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information by a communication device are disclosed and may include detecting a handheld communication device that may detect a first network in a first location. The handheld communication device may establish a connection with and utilize the first network. In exchange for utilizing the first network, the handheld communication device may receive messages associated with the first location. When the handheld communication device is moved from the first location to a second location, the handheld may detect a second network at the second location. The handheld communication device may establish a connection with and utilize the second network. In exchange for utilizing the second network, the handheld communication device may receive messages associated with the second location. The first location and the second location may be places of business such as, for example, a store.

  • Publication number: 20070286134
Abstract: Methods and systems for communicating information within a network are disclosed. The method may include accessing by a first wireless handheld communication device (WHCD), a list of devices authorized to access a second WHCD. The list of devices may be maintained by a centralized communication device that facilitates communication between the first WHCD and the second WHCD. The first WHCD may not be paired with the second WHCD. A communication link may be established between the first WHCD and the second WHCD via the centralized communication device, if the list of devices authorized to access the second WHCD comprises an identifier (ID) of the first WHCD. Authentication information of the first WHCD may be communicated to the centralized communication device, prior to the accessing by the first WHCD of the list of devices. The accessing by the first WHCD may be authorized based on the communicated authentication information.

  • Publication number: 20070287470
Abstract: A first handheld communication device may generate a wireless emergency signal and communicate it to a second handheld communication device. The wireless emergency signal may consist of location and identification information of the first handheld communication device. The wireless emergency signal may be generated as a result of a user input. In response to receiving the wireless signal, the second handheld communication device may route the emergency signal to a remote device, which may terminate and process emergency signals. The emergency signal may be routed to the remote device via a router. Upon routing of the emergency signal, the second handheld communication device or router may send a signal indicating the routing to the first handheld communication device. Additionally, upon reception of the emergency signal at the remote device, an acknowledgement signal may be communicated to the first handheld communication device via the second handheld communication device and/or router.

The generated list of authorized devices may be stored in memory within the WHCD. A direct communication link may be established between the WHCD and at least one other device within operating range of the WHCD based on the stored generated list. The generated list of authorized devices may include identification information of the at least one other device within operating range of the WHCD. The WHCD may determine whether the list of authorized devices includes the at least one other device, prior to the establishing the direct communication link.

  • Patent number: 6751250
Abstract: A wireless communication system including a receiver adapted to receive data at 10 Mbps or greater is described. The received signals are preferably binary (BFSK) and/or quaternary (QFSK) shift keying signals limited to a bandwidth of less than or equal to 5 MHz. The receiver includes a demodulator capable of operating in a multipath environment. In one embodiment, a frequency-hopping wireless communication system is used and the bandwidth limitations concern the bandwidth at each hop.
