  • Patent number: 4161443
Abstract: An apparatus for the separation of objects of dissimilar specific gravity from a mixture, the invention comprises a water bath into which the mixture is charged through a chute and caused to move over an opening in an inclined baffle member. As the objects move over the opening a stream of water under pressure is directed against the objects to cause lighter objects to be deflected past the opening to a first conveyor for removal from the water bath, heavier objects falling through the opening to a second conveyor for discharge from the water bath. The present apparatus is particularly useful for sorting potatoes from rocks after harvest of the potatoes.
