  • Publication number: 20080209864
Abstract: A process for forming a pouch having an evacuated headspace containing a flowable material is disclosed. The process includes the steps of: providing a continuous tube of flexible and sealable film; supplying the continuous tube with a predetermined amount of flowable material; pinching the continuous tube above a sealing region so as to form a pinched portion of the continuous tube; evacuating the headspace between the pinched portion and the predetermined amount of flowable material; and sealing the continuous tube at the sealing region to form a top seal of a previously formed pouch containing flowable material and a bottom seal of a next-to-be filled pouch. Also disclosed is a vertical form-fill-seal apparatus for forming a pouch containing a flowable material and having an evacuated headspace.

  • Publication number: 20080214182
Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed relating to relay networks or multi-hop networks, and also relating to power control and channel reuse techniques for wireless relay networks. A technique of power control in a wireless relay network may include receiving a channel measurement report via a relay station from a mobile station attached to the relay station, and determining a mobile station-specific downlink data transmission power level for the relay station to transmit data to the mobile station based at least in part on the received channel measurement report from the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20080154163
Abstract: An apparatus for applying pressure to a body part comprising: a first sleeve comprising a multiplicity of pressure-applying resilient protrusions configured to apply a therapeutic pressure to a surface of the body part of a patient; and a second sleeve slidably received over the first sleeve, the second sleeve configured to apply a pressure to the first sleeve, thereby increasing the therapeutic pressure applied by the first sleeve on the limb.

  • Publication number: 20080107013
Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed relating to wireless networks such as relay networks or multi-hop networks, and also relating to transmitting a signal using coding schemes and multiple frequencies. According to an example embodiment, a different wireless signature may be assigned to one or more nodes in a wireless network, each wireless signature indicating an energy transmission on a set of tones, each wireless signature being substantially orthogonal with or distinguishable from one or more other wireless signatures. A wireless signature may be received, and a transmitting wireless node may be determined based on the wireless signature.

  • Publication number: 20070280386
Abstract: A network entity in a multi-transmit antenna system, such as a transmitting or receiving entity, includes a component such as a pre-coder or a receiver, and is configured for full-spatial-rate coding data. The network entity is capable of providing a full-spatial-rate codebook having been designed by selecting an underlying partial-spatial-rate codebook designed for a system configured for partial-spatial-rate coding data. The full-spatial-rate codebook can then be designed in a manner including defining the full-spatial-rate codewords based upon partial-spatial-rate codewords of the partial-spatial rate codebook and basis vectors of a null space of the respective partial-spatial-rate codewords in a multidimensional vector space. The network entity can also be capable of selecting codewords of the codebook in accordance with a sub-space tracking method whereby the codewords of the codebook can be selected in a manner that exploits correlations therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20060159195
Abstract: A system for transmitting data over a MIMO channel has a transmitter and a receiver. In the transmitter, the input data is encoded over at least two pipes by a concatenation of at least two constituent signal-space encoders. Each constituent encoder is used to generate, in response to the input data, a sequence of symbols from a channel alphabet having at least one dimension. Each symbol of the channel alphabet includes at least one complex symbol having real and imaginary coordinates. The transmitter interleaves the coordinates of the sequence of channel alphabet symbols, and transmits (from at least two transmit antennas) the interleaved coordinates. Preferably, each constituent encoder maximizes a minimum coordinate-wise Hamming distance between members of all valid pairs of symbol sequences, maximizes a minimum Euclidean distance between members of all valid pairs of different codewords, and obeys an equal eigenvalue criterion.

  • Publication number: 20060045196
Abstract: A reduced state sequence estimator, and associated method, for equalizing data symbols communicated during operation of a communication system. The estimator is formed of multi-dimensional states of groups of symbols that are combined over more than one dimension to the multi-dimensional. Once the groups of symbols are formed, the groups are partitioned into partition sets. Equalization operations are performed over multiple time epochs of the trellis formed of the partitioned groups of symbols over multiple time epochs.

  • Publication number: 20060017613
Abstract: Fast fading in cellular systems causes time variation of the Channel Impulse Response (CIR) resulting in significant performance degradation that is reduced by adding a pulse train to the transmitted data symbols and estimating the CIR by averaging the symbols as they vary from one OFDM symbol to another within the physical data frame (or packet).

  • Patent number: 5916183
Abstract: This invention is an apparatus for treating lymphedema having a sleeve with inwardly projecting-elastomeric fingers and externally fitted pressure adjusting circular bands. When the sleeve is fitted to a patient's limb, the fingers impose a grid pattern of pressure points against skin of swollen limb. Space around and between the pressure points provide channels under the skin through which lymphatic fluids are able to migrate up the arm to the shoulder where healthy nodes process it and channel it to the large veins. Similar applications are applied to other limbs, hands, and feet with sleeves, and to the shoulder, chest wall, and back with vests.
