  • Patent number: 6332903
Abstract: A bimetallic materials processing cylinder formed of a titanium carbide alloy via a vacuum melt process, for example at a pressure of about 10−4 Torr, the purpose of which being to utilize titanium as a main ingredient binded by the best available wear and corrosion resistant alloy that will “wet”, but not dissolve too much as a cermet, to thereby create a metallurgically bonded inside layer of a material processing bimetallic cylinder. The titanium carbide alloy is for example up to about 58 volumetric percent titanium carbide and the remaining volumetric percent is a predetermined bonding alloy. Preferred titanium carbide alloys are (by weight percent): titanium carbide at 24.80 to 53.60%, nickel at 44.30 to 29.20%, chromium at 13.50 to 6.00%, silicon at 3.60 to 1.75%, boron at 2.85 to 1.75%, molybdenum at 3.70 to 1.38%, copper at 1.50 to 0.46%, iron at a 3.00% maximum, carbon at a 0.45% maximum, and other materials at a 2.00% maximum.

  • Patent number: 6261192
Abstract: A golf club head having a face plate that is tensioned, locally hardened and weighted at the impact zone by the presence of at least one hardened, dense metal plug to thereby provide enhanced distance and directional stability to a struck golf ball. The face plate has one or more metal plugs tensionally interfitted therewith, wherein the face plate is caused to be tensioned and locally hardened by the presence of the one or more metal plugs. The one or more metal plugs are located at the impact zone of the face plate where the golf ball is struck.

  • Patent number: 5387182
Abstract: A pressurized water jet dental hygiene apparatus which connects to a conventional faucet, composed of a two-component coupling, a flexible tube, and a hand held nozzle connected with the flexible tubing. A first component of the two-component coupling is threaded onto a selected faucet. The second component of the two-component coupling is connected with the flexible tubing. In operation, the faucet operates normally when the second component of the two-component coupling is removed. When it is desired to operate the fluid jet dental hygiene apparatus, the second component of the coupling is connected with the first component. Now, when water is turned on, water will squirt out the nozzle with a velocity and volume dependent upon the water pressure delivered at the faucet and relative amount the faucet valve (or valves) is (are) opened. The user then holds the nozzle such as to provide jetable cleansing of his or her dental tissues.

  • Patent number: 4766042
Abstract: A plastics processing machine component, such as a lined composite heating cylinder or a hardfaced feed screw, wherein a layer of a hard, corrosion-resistant alloy is joined to a component substrate in the form of the part to be protected. The alloy has a composition, in weight percent, of from about 12 to about 16 percent molybdenum, from about 10 to about 14 percent chromium, up to about 1.2 percent carbon, up to about 3.5 percent silicon, from about 0.5 to about 3.5 percent boron, balance nickel. Such alloys are resistant to corrosion damage from hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride environments, have sufficient fluidity to permit centrifugal casting in the temperature range of 1800.degree. F. to 2250.degree. F., and can be tailored to have hardnesses from about 45 to over 60 R.sub.c.

  • Patent number: 4728939
Abstract: An aid to steering of a vehicle having directional control defined by rotation of a steering wheel consists of a wedge shaped member strapped to an operator's thigh, having a pliable, frictional surface material for mating with the outside rim of the steering wheel. An alternative embodiment provides for a sleep alarm to sound when biasing between the invention and the steering wheel slackens.

  • Patent number: 4430389
Abstract: A composite cylinder for use in injection molding or extrusion operations, wherein a lining having excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance is applied to the inside of an outer housing by a centrifugal casting process utilizing an alloy having tungsten-carbide particles in a nickel-chromium based alloy matrix. The casting alloy has a composition of up to about 57 weight percent tungsten carbide, with the balance a mixture of nickel and chromium and possibly minor amounts of other elements, but without any significant amount of cobalt. Particularly satisfactory results are obtained from an alloy having a composition by weight of 46-57 percent tungsten carbide, 28-40 percent nickel, 5.1-9.5 percent chromium, 1.5-2.9 percent iron, 1.5-2.9 percent silicon, 1.0-2.3 percent boron and 0.5 percent maximum carbon, the total of constituents being 100%.
