  • Publication number: 20190104837
Abstract: A method (500) for calibrating a pressure sensor (28) of an oral cleaning device (10). The method comprises the steps of: providing an oral cleaning device comprising a body portion (12), an elongated member (14, 720) extending from the body portion and comprising a head (16, 770), a pressure sensor (28) configured to obtain a measurement of a force applied to the head by the user during a cleaning session, and a processor (32) configured to receive, from the pressure sensor, the measurement of force applied to the head; obtaining a non-zero load calibration parameter; and calibrating, by the processor using the non-zero load calibration parameter, the measurement of force received from the pressure sensor.

  • Publication number: 20190008270
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for providing feedback to an individual based on brushing performance, and providing guidance for the individual's brushing, are provided herein. In one exemplary embodiment, after an oral hygiene device is orientated, a determination is made as to a segment within the individual's mouth that a brush head of the oral hygiene device is located. Upon this determination being made, a sub-segment within the individual's mouth where the brush head is located is also determined. A brushing performance within the sub-segment is calculated and displayed to the user. A level of compliance for the particular segment is determined based on the brushing performance of the various sub-segments within the particular segment. If the level of compliance exceeds a pre-set compliance level for that segment, the individual is guided to a different segment within their mouth for brushing.

  • Publication number: 20180352947
Abstract: An oral hygiene device (100) including at least one sensor (104) to improve a user's operation of the oral hygiene device is provided. In one exemplary embodiment, the oral hygiene device includes a longitudinal shaft (102), an attachment assembly (112), a handle portion (110), a suspension system (106), at least two sensors (104a, 104b), and at least one processor (132). The at least one processor is operable to receive an amount of force applied to the attachment assembly, which is detected by the at least two sensors. An angle that the attachment assembly is applied is also determined, the angle being based on the detected amount of force. In one embodiment, the angle and the amount of force are displayed within a user interface to the user to help the user improve their oral hygiene technique.

  • Publication number: 20180192765
Abstract: Systems and methods for enhancing a user's efficiency while operating an oral hygiene device (10) is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, at least one image is captured using an image capturing component (602), and a region of interest (820) for operating the oral hygiene device is determined based on the at least one captured image. Characteristics corresponding to a motion of the oral hygiene device operated by the user are extracted. An analysis of the extracted characteristics occurs to determine a quality of motion of the oral hygiene device, and feedback is provided to the user to regarding the determined quality of motion of the oral hygiene device.

  • Publication number: 20180160796
Abstract: Systems and methods for enhancing a user's efficiency while operating an oral hygiene device (10) is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, motion information of an oral hygiene device is received from one or more accelerometers (32) located within the oral hygiene device. The received motion information is compared to a targeted motion of the oral hygiene device. The user operating the oral hygiene device is then provided with feedback in response to determining that the received motion information is within a predefined range of the targeted motion information.

  • Patent number: 8692978
Abstract: A method of determining a defect in a grid plate of an encoder-type position measurement system, the method including providing an encoder-type position measurement system to measure a position of a movable object with respect to another object, the encoder-type position measurement system including a grid plate and an encoder head, measuring a quantity of light reflected on each of the two or more detectors, using a combined light intensity of the reflected light on the two or more detectors to determine a reflectivity signal representative for the reflectivity of the grid plate at the measurement location, and determining a presence of a defect at the measurement location on the basis of the reflectivity signal of the grid plate.
