  • Patent number: 5890888
Abstract: A cooler (1) for cooling particulate material from a kiln, wherein the material upon entry into the cooler (1) is distributed to a material bed on a stationary supporting surface (11) in the form of a tray, while cooling gas, such as atmospheric air, is blown up through the material bed from injectors in the tray in a uniform and evenly distributed manner. The material is conveyed forward across the supporting surface (1) and through the cooler (1) by means of a separate mechanical conveying device (17). It is thus possible to split the three functions of such a cooler, viz. to support the material, to distribute the cooling gas across the supporting surface and to convey the material forward across the supporting surface, into functions which are independent of one another, so that each function can be optimized.

  • Patent number: 5259876
Abstract: In a kiln plant for burning clinker from mineral raw materials, such as cement raw materials, and comprising a kiln (1), a precalciner (4), a preheater (6, 7, 8) and a flue gas filter (31), part of the kiln flue gases is diverted from the precalciner and the preheater via a bypass (20-30), the bypassed amount of flue gas being subjected to a preceding quenching in a chamber (21), humidified with water and cooled in a reactor (23), thereby causing the chlorides and alkalis in the bypassed gas to deposit upon dust particles which together with material dust in the gases are precipitated from the latter in a separator (25). The bypassed flue gas thus being almost purified of harmful compounds is then fed to the filter (31) or recirculated to the bypass in such manner that at least part of the precipitated compounds and material dust from the reactor (23) and the separator (25) is returned to the reactor for renewed treatment in same.

  • Patent number: 4984983
Abstract: A method and apparatus of cofiring hazardous organic waste in solid, pasty, greasy or sludge form by introducing it directly into the burning zone of an industrial rotary kiln and burning the waste in the burning zone simultaneously with cement, lime or lightweight aggregate. Specifically disclosed are five exemplary embodiments for introducing the waste directly into the burning zone of the kiln, i.e., (1) through a side opening in the kiln, (2) ballistically, (3) by pre-mixing with a powder or granular material and pneumatically injecting the non-sticky mixture, (4) by shredding steel drums containing the waste and thereafter separating the drum fragments and mixing the remaining waste with powder or granular material (i.e. as in (3) and (5) by pregasification of the waste.

  • Patent number: 4715188
Abstract: A Clinker cooler has a stationary tubular body (4) with a material inlet (3) connected to a kiln (1) and a material outlet (5). Material (18) is repeatedly raised into the path of cooling air from a fan (7) by blasts of air from a row of blasters (8).

  • Patent number: 4695325
Abstract: A kiln plant for producing cement of other clinker from chloride-containing raw material has a kiln (2), a suspension preheater (4,5,6,7) through which kiln exit gas passes to a precipitator (8), and a by-pass conduit (11,14) through which a portion of the kiln exit gas passes via an air quenching unit (12) to the precipitator without encountering any further precipitator.

  • Patent number: 4419964
Abstract: A whirl chamber boiler plant for generation of steam includes a combustion chamber in which the fuel is burned in a whirl within the chamber. The bottom of the chamber slopes downwardly towards an inlet through which combustion air is admitted into the chamber. Fuel and inert material are admitted into the chamber adjacent the bottom thereof. The inlet is of a size suitable for fluidizing the inert material within the chamber. Boiler tubes built within the chamber provide for removal of heat from the chamber. Preferably the inert material is a grain-shaped ash of the type produced by the burning of the fuel. In one embodiment of the present invention, a portion of the ash contained in the gases exiting from the chamber is returned to the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4369067
Abstract: A method is disclosed for manufacturing pulverous or granular material in a plant supplied with raw material, for example, cement raw meal, including a kiln for burning the raw material to be treated therein, a cooler coupled after the kiln for cooling the product treated in the kiln, a first preheater coupled before the kiln and heated with kiln exit gases, and a second preheater heated with spent cooling air. According to the preferred embodiment, the method comprises the steps of feeding all of the raw material to the second preheater, conveying all of the raw material preheated in the second preheater to the first preheater, and returning to the cooler for reuse therein, all of the cooling air cooled in the second preheater. A unique plant is disclosed for practicing the method of the invention. The method and plant promote fuel economy and eliminate or at least minimizes dedusting requirements in the manufacture of such pulverous or granular material.
