Abstract: Apparatus for aiming a gun barrel in a specific direction. A panoramic optical aiming system is provided which includes image reversion optics for compensating for image rolling. Additional control of the reversion optics is provided for compensating for ground inclination. A calculating unit may be employed to control the optical aiming system in response to various sensed conditions.

Abstract: An improved system for determining the vertical direction relative to a moving base includes gyroscopic rate sensors for determining angular velocities of a device such as a weapon mounted on the base, relative to two orthogonal axes; a gyroscopic rate sensor for determining the roll angle velocity of the system and a calculating circuit for determining the roll and pitch angles needed to ascertain the vertical direction.

Abstract: An electromechanical transducer for converting mechanical analog angular information to electrical linear information, utilizing a primary winding and a first and second secondary winding, said secondary windings being arranged perpendicular to each other and rotatable in relationship to the primary winding. The primary winding is connected to the output of an amplifier. The amplifier is inductively fed back by means of the primary winding and one of the secondary windings. The input voltage of the amplifier is related to the voltage across the other secondary winding and privides a linear measure for the rotation of the secondary windings in relationship to the primary winding.

Abstract: Two systems are disclosed in which a pointer is directed towards a moving target over a predetermined time interval. Angular information is derived from the pointer during this time interval to generate signals indicative of the distance of the object from the pointer. During a second time interval, the pointer is automatically directed towards the moving object by use of the information derived during the first time interval.
