  • Patent number: 6693894
Abstract: A method and communications network is provided that directly routes a call from a calling party to a called mobile party using an IP network. More specifically, the method includes the step of determining at the IP network as to whether the called mobile party is currently roaming outside a home mobile network. In response to an affirmative determination, an address of a destination mobile network currently occupied by the called mobile party is obtained at the IP network, and the call between the calling party and the called mobile party is connected using the IP network and the destination mobile network while bypassing the home mobile network. In response to a negative determination, an address of the home mobile network is obtained at the IP network, and the call between the calling party and the called mobile party is connected using the IP network and the home mobile network.

  • Patent number: 6400942
Abstract: A relatively large short message (BC-SMS) is broadcast to a selected group of mobile subscriber stations within a cellular radio system. Each BC-SMS message greater in size than a predetermined number of octets is divided into segments, formatted into a separate modified paging message (PBC) which is unrecognizable to existing mobiles but recognizable to new mobiles. The BC-SMS message segments are broadcast in sequence as modified paging messages to the mobiles within the region of the system where the selected group is believed to be operating. Each paging message includes the essential elements of a paging message, a message ID number, a sequence number and the message segment payload.

  • Patent number: 6307845
Abstract: A packet-switched voice call directed to a mobile subscriber unit in a cellular communication network is processed by determining whether the mobile subscriber unit is in a circuit-switched mode of operation and, if so, either forwarding the information in the packet-switched voice call to a destination other than the mobile subscriber unit or notifying the mobile subscriber unit that the packet-switched voice call is waiting.

  • Patent number: 6246670
Abstract: A method, and associated apparatus, prevents misrouting of packet-data in a radio communication system subsequent to an abnormal communication session termination by a wireless host. When a determination is made that a communication session between a wireless host and another host has terminated abnormally, a temporary address used to identify the wireless host is not permitted to be immediately reassigned to identify another wireless host. Misrouting of data to another wireless host subsequent to the abnormal communication session, termination is thereby avoided.

  • Patent number: 6226523
Abstract: An Internet Protocol traffic filter is provided for a mobile radio network. A database stores access privileges of the mobile station for accessing a remote host, and access privileges of the remote host for accessing the mobile station. A processor receives data from the mobile station addressed to a remote host. The processor accesses the database to determine whether the mobile station is allowed to access the remote host, and denies access if access is unauthorized. Otherwise, the processor sends the data to the remote host if access is authorized. The processor also receives data from a remote host, and determines whether the remote host is allowed to access the mobile station. The processor denies access to the mobile station if the remote host is unauthorized. Otherwise, the processor connects the remote host to the mobile station if access is authorized.

  • Patent number: 6222829
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for effectuating voice communication between a mobile station and a mobile radio network. A gateway to the mobile radio network receives an incoming voice call for a destination mobile station and accesses information pertaining the status and location of the destination mobile station. A determination is made as to whether the destination mobile station is capable of operation in a voice mode using circuit-switched communications across a traffic channel. If the destination mobile station is operable in the voice mode, a circuit-switched communication on a traffic channel is established between the mobile radio network and the destination mobile station. Otherwise, the incoming voice call is routed to a voice gateway which converts the voice call to data packets and routes the data packets to the mobile station across an Internet Protocol communication network to a packet gateway of the mobile radio network.

  • Patent number: 6061341
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a TCP packet connection between a remote host on a first network and a mobile station on a mobile network is disclosed. The process initially involves performing a three-way handshake routine between the remote host and a gateway packet mobile switching center of the mobile network to establish the validity of a TCP packet connection request. During the handshake routine transmissions from the remote host are buffered by the gateway packet mobile switching center. A second three-way handshake routine is then carried out between the gateway packet mobile switching center and the mobile station using the buffered transmissions to complete a TCP connection between the mobile station and the remote host.

  • Patent number: 5915222
Abstract: A Short Message Service (SMS) communication network is interfaced with an Intelligent Network. In response to an indication from a mobile subscriber to transmit unstructured data towards a particular B-number, a serving mobile switching center/visitor location register (MSC/VLR) determines whether the calling party subscriber or called party subscriber is associated with an IN service. In response to an affirmative determination, instead of transmitting the received unstructured data directly to a Short Message Service-Center (SMS-C), the serving MSC/VLR routes an Integrated Service Digital Network User Part (ISUP) signal encapsulating the unstructured data to the associated Intelligent Network. An associated Service Switching Point (SCP) and Service Control Point (SSP) then provide the desired IN service to the received unstructured data.

  • Patent number: 3968559
Abstract: A method of assembling individual units of automobiles in an assembly line in which each unit or parts of the unit are transported on individual motor-driven transport cars, the movement of the cars being individually controlled by signals from control wires connected with a control center and running in the direction of the line. The invention also comprises an apparatus as well as a transport car to be used in said method.
