  • Patent number: 8070197
Abstract: The present invention relates to an energy absorption device (1) for a bumper arrangement of a vehicle, with a hollow longitudinal section (2) intended for deformation, a rolled-back region (3) adjoining the hollow longitudinal section, and an extension section (4) connected to the rolled-back region. In order to improve an energy absorption device of this type to the extent that obliquely acting accident forces can be absorbed with a high degree of efficiency in as simple a manner as possible, it is proposed, in an initial state prior to energy absorption, to orient the hollow longitudinal section (2) obliquely with respect to the axial direction of the extension section (4).

Date of Patent: December 6, 2011
    Assignee: Cosma Engineering Europe AG

  • Patent number: 7610983
Abstract: A method for damage limitation in the event of an offset frontal collision between two motor vehicles, with a first signal which signals an imminent collision triggering the steerable front wheels (9, 10) to turn inward in opposite directions, is to minimize the impact-induced yaw moment. To this end, the steerable wheels are moved back to the initial position again after the collision or if the collision has not taken place at all. To this end, two actuators (17?, 17?) with an external power source are provided in the case of a vehicle which is equipped for this purpose, with each actuator being associated with a steerable wheel (9, 10).

  • Publication number: 20080217128
Abstract: The present invention relates to an energy absorption apparatus having a first hollow longitudinal section (2) with a first cross-sectional width (5) and a second hollow longitudinal section (3) with a second cross-sectional width (6) and having an overlapping transition region (4) between the hollow longitudinal sections. The invention also relates to a method for producing an integral energy absorption apparatus. In order to provide an energy absorption apparatus having an easily determinable deformation response, the second hollow longitudinal section is designed to have a higher strength than the first hollow longitudinal section. In the method according to the invention for producing an energy absorption apparatus, a tube with a first cross-sectional width is narrowed, in sections, to the second cross sectional width so as to form the hollow longitudinal sections and the tube is compressed, as a result of which the overlapping transition region is formed.
