  • Patent number: 4997578
Abstract: An apparatus for dewatering and squeezing a water containing material comprises a drum with a sieve mantle defining two co-operating drum sections, each comprising a feed screw extending therein. The first section of the drum in the feed direction is formed for dewatering of the material mainly by self-drainage. The first drum section is rotatable and is provided with means for cleaning the sieve mantle holes. The second section is formed for increased compression of the material, and has a thread height for the feed screw smaller at the outlet of the second section than at the inlet to this section.

  • Patent number: 4684073
Abstract: Apparatus for thickening, or de-watering, and refining fibre-pulpsuspensions include a screw-press thickener (1) and a refiner (2). In order to prevent air from entering the pulp and to provide a simpler arrangement, the outfeed end of the screw-press thickener (1) is connected directly to the infeed end of the refiner (2), therewith also to serve as an infeed screw to the refiner (2). In this respect the thickener (1) has a screening jacket (5) which embraces the screw (6). The screening jacket has at least one section which converges in the pulp feed direction, to achieve in the screw-press (1) a press effect required for de-watering the pulp while at the same time achieving the requisite reduction in diameter of the screening jacket (5) for connection to the refiner (2).

  • Patent number: 4301846
Abstract: A machine for producing thin shavings from chopped cellulose chips, in which the shavings are cut substantially in the fiber direction and have a large surface area relative to their thickness. The machine comprises a first part provided with at least one knife means and a second part provided with at least one anvil surface for the chips, the first and second parts being arranged for rotation relative to one another. The second part provided with the anvil surface comprises a center member having open, helical conveying channels for conveying the chips axially, while the first part provided with the knife means is in the form of a cylindrical ring which surrounds the center member and which closes said channels over at least a part of their axial length. The depth of the channels varies in the peripheral direction of the member, said channels being deeper at the leading edge thereof than at their trailing edge, as seen in the relative rotational direction of the member relative to the surrounding ring.

  • Patent number: 4286512
Abstract: A screw press for pressing liquid from fibrous slurries, such as paper pulp, sludge, sedimentation and like material, in which the material is fed into the press at one end of a press screw arranged within a cylindrical strainer drum and rotatable about its longitudinal axis, and fed out of the press through a discharge zone located at the other end of said screw. The core of the screw has a successively increasing diameter along the major part of its length such that the space defined between the core and the wall of the drum gradually decreases in the feed direction. According to the invention the drum is arranged to rotate at a speed which differs from the speed of rotation of the screw. The speed of rotation of the drum is so selected that there is obtained, as the result of the centrifugal force, an effective draining through the drum of free liquid present in the slurry and liquid pressed from said slurry due to the action of the press-screw.

  • Patent number: 4269365
Abstract: A beater for refining fibre slurries, such as paper pulp, and for refining lump goods, such as wood chips and shavings comprises a central rotor and two outer fixed parts surrounding the rotor. The rotor is provided with two ring-shaped beater means and each of the two outer parts is provided with a ring-shaped beater means to form two beater zones between the beater means, one zone on each side of the rotor, in which zones the goods to be refined are treated during passage thereof substantially radially outwardly and as a result of the relative rotation between the rotor and the outer parts. The rotor has a cavity with an axial inlet for the goods to be refined and radially converging, substantially V-shaped defining walls, in which walls holes are arranged through which the goods can be passed to respective zones via passages formed between the rotor and the surrounding parts.
