    Abstract: A transparent N-alkyl-substituted maleimide/olefin copolymer composite material is provided which comprises 100 parts by weight of an N-alkyl-substituted maleimide/olefin copolymer, and 0.1 to 100 parts by weight of phyllosilicate, the phyllosilicate being dispersed uniformly and finely in a matrix of the N-alkyl-substituted maleimide/olefin copolymer. A process for producing the N-alkyl-substituted maleimide/olefin copolymer composite material is also provided. The N-alkyl-substituted maleimide/olefin copolymer composite material is excellent in transparency, heat resistance, rigidity, and dimensional stability.

    Abstract: A resin composition is disclosed which comprises:(a) from 1 to 99% by weight of a maleimide-olefin copolymer comprising from 40 to 60 mol % of structural unit (I) shown below and from 60 to 40 mol % of structural unit (II) shown below and having a number-average molecular weight of from 1.times.10.sup.3 to 5.times.10.sup.6 : ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or an alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each is hydrogen or an alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and(b) from 99 to 1% by weight of an acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer containing from 21 to 45% by weight of an acrylonitrile units. The composition is excellent in optical properties including transparency and low birefringence and in heat resistance and mechanical properties.

    Abstract: A process for producing a copolymer having succinimide units represented by general formula (I) is provided which comprises reaction of a copolymer constituted of 40-60 mole % of maleic anhydride units, 60-40 mole % of olefin units, and 0-20 mole % of another copolymerizable monomer units with an amine to convert the maleic anhydride units to the succinimide units, wherein the succinimide units are formed by ring-closing imidation in a slurry state in a poor solvent: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl or cycloalkyl group of 1 to 6 carbons. The copolymer has low yellowness and high transparency.
