  • Patent number: 5592559
Abstract: A speaker driving circuit including a switch which switches the supplying of current to a speaker on and off by using a binary pulse-density-modulated (PDM) signal produced by .DELTA..SIGMA.-modulating a digital audio signal from a digital low-pass filter. For example, when the PDM signal is "1", the switch causes the output current of the direct-current power source to flow to the voice coil. On the other hand, when the PDM signal is "0", the switch stops the current to flow to the voice coil. This switch may be replaced with a switch which switches the direction of current flowing through the voice coil. The diaphragm of the speaker is driven by controlling the supplying of current in such a manner. With this arrangement, since a D/A converter for a digital audio signal is not required, there is no need to install an amplification circuit for an analog signal. Thus, the speaker driving circuit has a simplified structure but is capable of driving the speaker stably.

  • Patent number: 5347587
Abstract: A speaker driving device applies a constant voltage of a constant voltage source to a pair of voice coils alternatively by switching the direction of applying the constant voltage based on a binary PDM signal. A .DELTA..SIGMA. modulator produces the binary PDM signal by .DELTA..SIGMA.-modulating a digital audio signal from a digital low-pass filter. The constant voltage is applied to a first voice coil in one direction and is applied to a second voice coil in the reverse direction by switching the direction of applying the constant voltage. The first and second voice coils forms the pair of voice coils. This arrangement causes a current to flow through the first and second voice coils in opposite directions and a diaphragm of a speaker to be driven in two directions opposite to each other. As a result, the speaker is driven more efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5191619
Abstract: A bass enhancing device for a speaker system a bass enhancing member that increases base range sound waves by vibrating according to sound waves emitted by a speaker unit. The bass enhancing member has a bass range resonant frequency that differs from a frequency at which an amplitude of vibration speed of the speaker system becomes largest. Further, vibration detecting device for detecting vibrations of the bass enhancing member and releasing a detecting current is provided, for example, in the bass enhancing member. The detecting current is fed back to amplification device by feedback device. According to this arrangement, bass range acoustic characteristics are improved without lowering vibration efficiency of a vibrating system of a speaker unit and without increasing structural complexity of the speaker unit.

  • Patent number: 5097197
Abstract: A signal level attenuating device having an analog attenuator and a digital attenuator which respectively include resistance attenuators. The resistance attenuators have the same attenuating characteristics and are mutually coupled. When one of the resistance attenuators is adjusted, the other of the resistance attenuators is simultaneously adjusted so that an analog signal and a digital signal respectively entered therein are attenuated at an identical attenuating factor. The digital attenuator further comprises an A/D convertor, a coefficient generator and a multiplier. The resistance attenuator in the digital attenuator attenuates a reference voltage and sends it to the A/D convertor. The coefficient generator computes an attenuation coefficient by which the digital signal entered therein is to be multiplied, based on an output of the A/D convertor. The digital signal is multiplied by the attenuation coefficient in the multiplier.
