    Abstract: A process for producing a laminate comprises the steps of: coating a water solution containing water and a water-soluble liquid crystal compound on a surface of a substrate to form a coating film; and drying the coating film by placing the coating film in an atmosphere having 70% RH or higher to less than 100% RH to more than 10% by weight of the solvent in the coating film; wherein an optical anisotropic layer is formed on the surface of the substrate by exerting a regulating force on the water-soluble liquid crystal compound to orient the water-soluble liquid crystal compound in the drying process.
