Publication number: 20160053852Abstract: A metal belt for a continuously variable transmission includes a metal element wound around a drive pulley and a driven pulley and transmits a driving force between the two pulleys, in which a rocking edge is provided at the radially outer end of a front face of a body part. The rocking edge being a fulcrum for pitching of the metal element, and a recess is formed in a rear face of a neck part, and therefore, when the metal element on the rear side is displaced toward the radially outer side with respect to the metal element on the front side, the rocking edge of the metal element on the rear side enters a ring slot and the recess of the metal element on the front side, and the metal element on the rear side moves so as to be closer to the metal element on the front side.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2014Publication date: February 25, 2016Applicant: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Toru YAGASAKI, Soichiro SUMIDA

Publication number: 20150276016Abstract: A metal belt is wound around a drive pulley and a driven pulley of a continuously variable transmission. Since intervals between multiple adjuster metal element groups are set so as to avoid that the number of the adjuster metal element groups simultaneously existing on a driving-side chord portion of the metal belt between the drive pulley and the driven pulley is 2 or more, it is possible to prevent large vibration which would occur if two or more adjuster metal element groups would exist on the driving-side chord portion of the metal belt. Furthermore, since the multiple adjuster metal elements are distributionally disposed in the multiple adjuster metal element groups, it is possible to decrease imbalance among the adjuster metal element groups, compared with a case where all the adjuster metal elements are disposed in a single adjuster metal element group. Thereby, the vibration can be reduced more.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2015Publication date: October 1, 2015Applicant: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Toru Yagasaki, Soichiro Sumida

Patent number: 9103412Abstract: Among V-faces (48) of a pulley (15), a portion (48a) that is radially further inside than a predetermined position P1 is susceptible to slip against a metal belt (19), but making a shape of the generatrix of the portion (48a) on the radially inner side into a straight line enables a large coefficient of friction against the metal belt (19) to be ensured, thereby reliably preventing slip from occurring. Furthermore, by making, among the V-faces (48) of the pulley (15), a shape of the generatrix of a portion (48b) that is radially further outside than the predetermined position P1 into a curved line that curves in a direction that compensates for misalignment (C) of the metal belt (19) ensures that the metal belt (19) smoothly bites into the V-faces (48), thereby enabling the durability of the metal belt (19) or the pulley (15) to be enhanced.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2011Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventor: Toru Yagasaki

Patent number: 8801555Abstract: Although a radial outside portion of a metal ring contact surface of a neck section of a metal element which is contactably opposed to a side edge of a metal ring of a metal ring assembly has high frequencies of contacting with a side edge of the metal ring, it is possible to suppress abrasion of the side edge of the metal ring and to improve durability of the metal ring by setting a surface hardness of the radial outside portion lower than a surface hardness of the metal ring. In addition, by setting a surface hardness of the metal ring contact surface at its portion of the radial outside lower than the surface hardness of the metal ring contact surface at other portions thereof where the frequencies of contacting with the side edge of the metal ring becomes low, in comparison with a case of setting the surface hardness of the whole metal ring contact surface low, it is possible to increase strength of the metal element and to improve the durability of the metal element.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2008Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideaki Aoyama, Toru Yagasaki

Patent number: 8062159Abstract: In a metal ring for a metal belt of a belt type continuously variable transmission, a relationship is established between a compressive residual stress of a metal ring of an innermost layer imparted by a nitriding treatment and a free state radius of the metal ring nondimensionalized by a minimum winding radius. In the relationship, the sum of a compressive residual stress acting on the inner peripheral face of the metal ring, a compressive stress due to flexure and a contact stress does not exceed the elastic deformation limit of the metal ring. The maximum compressive stress of the metal ring does not become excessive, and an abrasion resistance of the surfaces of the metal ring is guaranteed.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2005Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shigeru Kanehara, Toru Yagasaki
