  • Patent number: 5636088
Abstract: The dimension ratio t/H of the thickness t of a flexure spring to the height (thickness) H of a slider 17 is set at 0.047 or less in order to reduce the variation in crown amount due to a temperature variation. As the ratio of the thickness t of the flexure spring to the height H of the slider decreases, the stress acting in the slider due to a difference in linear expansion coefficient between itself and the flexure spring decreases and the rigidity of the slider increases relative to the flexure spring. The dimension ratio H/L of the height H of the slider to the length L thereof is set at 0.245 or more. As the dimension ratio H/L increases, the rigidity of the slider increases and the amount of deformation of the slider due to a difference in linear expansion coefficient between itself and the flexure spring decreases. In addition, the ratio A2/A1 of an actual adhesion area A2 between the slider and a slider fixing portion of the flexure spring to a possible adhesion area A1 therebetween is reduced to 0.

  • Patent number: 4706142
Abstract: A magnetic disk apparatus has a base frame on which a magnetic disk having a head landing zone is carried. A magnetic head is supported by a carriage which is disposed on the base frame to be movable between a stop position where the head is located on the head landing zone of the disk and a position where the head is located on the outer peripheral edge portion of the disk. The carriage is urged by a first urging member to the stop position and is moved by a carriage drive mechanism. A lock member is disposed on the base frame to be movable between an engaged position where the lock member engages the carriage in the stop position to hold it therein and a disengaged position off the path of travel of the carriage. The lock member is urged by a second urging member to the engaged position and is held in the disengaged position by a solenoid when it is energized.

  • Patent number: 4417288
Abstract: A rotation control device for a magnetic disk drive apparatus, which provides electrical regenerative braking of the apparatus prior to and continuously with actuation of an electro-mechanical braking system, once power is cut off to the apparatus. The use of electrical regenerative braking minimizes wear on the mechanical braking components and reduces maintenance on the apparatus. The use of electro-mechanical braking at low speeds assures reliable continuous braking when the electrical regenerative braking becomes relatively ineffective at low speeds.

  • Patent number: 4238809
    Abstract: A servo track apparatus comprising at least one unit pattern area including 2n (n=2, 3, 4, . . . ) servo tracks T.sub.i (i=0, 1, . . . 2n-1) and 2n.sup.2 flux transitions R.sub.jk (j=0, 1, . . . 2n-1; k=0, 1, . . . n-1). The tracks and flux transitions satisfy a condition TT requiring that track T.sub.p be adjacent to track T.sub.p+1 ; a condition TR requiring that transition R.sub.pq occur on track T.sub.p+q (mod 2n); a condition RR requiring that transitions R.sub.pq and R.sub.pr (r.noteq.q) have the same polarity and occur at the same position; and a condition RR requiring that transitions R.sub.pr and R.sub.qr (q.noteq.p) occur at different positions.
