  • Publication number: 20130271520
Abstract: A printing apparatus that prints an image on a print medium using special glossy ink and color ink, the printing apparatus includes a print head including a plurality of special glossy ink nozzles for ejecting the special glossy ink and a plurality of color ink nozzles for ejecting the color ink, a print unit that drives the print head, an obtaining part that obtains image data, a print controller that prints the obtained image data on the print medium by controlling the print head and the print unit. In a case of printing the obtained image data on the special glossy region, the print controller allows a group of the special glossy ink nozzles to be offset from a group of the color ink nozzles in the sub-scanning direction by a predetermined interval, and then performs the printing by ejecting the special glossy ink and the color ink at timings different from each other.

  • Patent number: 8491078
Abstract: A printing apparatus performs printing on a printing medium by moving a print head relative to the printing medium in a main scanning direction, which is a width direction of the printing medium, and a sub-scanning direction that intersects the main scanning direction. The printing apparatus includes a print head that includes a plurality of nozzles configured to eject ink; an acquisition unit that acquires image data; and a dot forming unit that controls the print head so as to eject the ink to form dots corresponding to the image data on the printing medium. When suppression dots, which are dots formed to suppress bleeding, are formed on the printing medium, the dot forming unit controls the print head so that ink corresponding to the suppression dots is ejected from preceding nozzles arranged to eject ink to the printing medium earlier than other nozzles of the plurality of nozzles.

  • Publication number: 20120242734
Abstract: When dot data indicating whether or not a dot is to be formed is formed on the basis of the gradation value for each pixel, dots belonging to a plurality of pixel groups having different printing conditions are printed in a common region in an overlapping manner, and the distribution of dots in the common region has a noise characteristic possessing a peak in the spatial frequency region on the high-frequency side. • Publication number: 20120243012
Abstract: An image is divided into first a second regions on the basis of inputted image data, and a comparison is made between the gradation values of pixels in the first region and threshold values corresponding to the pixels of the first region of a dither mask. The results of the comparison are referenced to determine whether or not dots are formed in the pixels of the first region. Errors are calculated based on the results of determining the first boundary pixels, which are in the first region near the boundary between the first region second regions. Some of the errors are distributed as diffusion errors to pixels in the second region near the boundary. The diffusion errors distributed from the first boundary pixels are added, and it is determined whether or not dots are formed by the error diffusion method in the pixels of the second region.

  • Patent number: 8149462
Abstract: A plurality of types of positional shift postulated patterns are postulated wherein the positional shift of print head tips in a printer are postulated to have positional shift directions and distances. For each of the postulated positional shift postulated patterns, a base dithering mask is generated considering the ability to produce excellent dot dispersion characteristics when this postulated positional shift has occurred. Additionally, optimal dithering masks are generated through multiply combining the sets of threshold values that comprise the base dithering masks. Doing so enables the suppression of degradation of printed image quality, even when there are positional shifts between the print heads, in a half toning process for printing using a printer that is provided with a plurality of print heads that are arranged in a line across a printing range.

  • Patent number: 8031367
Abstract: A liquid ejection device of the invention is constructed to eject a liquid to an ejection object. The liquid ejection device has a dot data generator configured to generate dot data from given image data, where the dot data represents a dot creation state in each pixel set on the ejection object. The liquid ejection device also has a liquid ejector equipped with a nozzle array including multiple nozzles aligned in a specific direction substantially perpendicular to a scanning direction. The liquid ejector makes multiple scans of the nozzle array in the scanning direction in a common printing area according to the generated dot data and ejects the liquid to the ejection object to create dots. The dot data generator has a specific print mode that generates corrective dot data by skipping a virtual dot array created by one scan from a group of dot arrays to be created by the multiple scans of the nozzle array, in order to prevent a potential contact with a dot array to be created by another scan.
