  • Patent number: 6394450
Abstract: A delivery fan, comprising sets of blades at constant circumferential spacings, receives therebetween the sheets successively falling from an overhead infeed conveyor. The sheets fall off the delivery fan on hitting a set of abutment tines arranged interdigitatingly with the fan blades. A stack of sheets thus formed on a retractable platform is unloaded therefrom onto a delivery conveyor. A temporary sheet holder is provided which is angularly displaceable about the delivery fan axis between a working position, where it temporarily receive the sheets falling off the delivery fan pending unloading of the preformed stack of sheets, and a retracted position where the sheet holder allows the sheets to fall from the delivery fan onto the platform. The sheet holder is mounted to the shaft of the delivery fan via a pair of overrunning clutches and sprung from the retracted toward the working position.

  • Patent number: 6279472
Abstract: A rotary printing press has a postprinting processing station where the printed web of paper, stretched out between two pairs of nip rollers, is slit longitudinally into a pair of web halves and where the web halves are subsequently superposed one upon the other. This station includes a tension roller for imparting tension to the web being slit, and a set of turnbars for causing a change in the traveling direction of one of the web halves before being placed in register with the other. The tension roller and one of the turnbars are both automatically driven to their working positions with the start of machine operation and retracted when the machine is set out of operation.

  • Patent number: 6042672
Abstract: In a method of making sealed paper, a web of paper is unrolled and fed, while under a given tension, from a paper roll, and is single-folded or multiple-folded. Prior to the or each folding step, the unrolled web of paper is treated by having an adhesive applied to margin portions thereof destined to be margins of the sealed paper on an inner surface thereof other than along a fold line at which the paper is to be folded. The folded web of paper is then cut to yield a number of sealable paper units so treated and folded as above. The method further includes pressing the sealable paper units to have them sealed with the adhesive applied and thereafter discharging the sealed paper units each of which represents a sealed paper. The method may further include printing a given message or information on a sheet of paper before the paper is rolled into the above mentioned paper roll.

  • Patent number: 4706566
Abstract: A method of makeready for a web printing press of the type wherein a web of paper or the like is fed through a print station and a perforating or like processing station driven by first and second drive shaft sections, respectively, which are normally held interconnected via a clutch for joint rotation and which are declutched to allow the print station to operate independently of the processing station. For reconnecting the two drive shaft sections in phase, the method comprises counting the number of revolutions of the first drive shaft section after the same has been declutched from the second drive shaft section, as by a CPU connected to receive electric pulses representative of the revolutions of the first drive shaft section. Upon reception of a clutch engage command from a manually actuable control panel, the CPU computes the additional number of revolutions required for the first drive shaft section before being reconnected in phase to the second drive shaft section.

  • Patent number: 4690051
Abstract: For image registration as in a web fed, multiple color printing press, printing plates are employed each bearing a registration mark having a first line segment extending transversely of the web and a second line segment extending aslantly of the web. The registration marks are so located on the printing plates that their images reproduced on the web are in a row arranged longitudinally of the web and with spacings from one to another. The printed images of the registration marks on the traveling web are sensed optically in order to determine the actual distances between them and between the first and second line segments of each registration mark. The thus ascertained actual distances are converted into corresponding numbers of reference pulses, and these pulse numbers are compared with reference pulse numbers representative of the proper distances.
