  • Publication number: 20220289355
Abstract: In a marine propulsion apparatus that transmits power of at least one of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and a generator motor (GM) mounted on a ship to a propeller via a forward reverse switching mechanism, the marine propulsion apparatus can be downsized as a whole. The marine propulsion apparatus includes a connection switching mechanism capable of selectively connecting the GM to an upstream side and a downstream side of the power transmission from the ICE in the forward reverse switching mechanism. Then, the forward reverse switching mechanism is interposed between the ICE and the connection switching mechanism, and a large torque from the ICE is not directly transmitted to the connection switching mechanism. As a result, it is not necessary to increase the capacity of the connection switching mechanism, and the connection switching mechanism and thus the marine propulsion apparatus can be downsized.

  • Patent number: 5590737
Abstract: A transmission has a pair of hydraulic motors for hydraulically driving crawler type vehicles. The hydraulic motors are connected by a drive train having rotary members. The hydraulic motors are disposed such that a rotary axis of an output shaft on one hydraulic motor is offset from a rotary axis of an output shaft on the other hydraulic motor. A clutch is provided between one output shaft and another rotary member, which is coaxially disposed on the one output shaft. The clutch in accordance with the invention improves the accuracy of straight forward movement of the vehicle. In accordance with the invention, when a steering unit for steering the vehicle is moved to a steering position, for turning the vehicle, and a non-steering position, for straight forward movement of the vehicle, vehicle impact and clutch damage are reduced. The transmission can also be made more compact. In addition, a parking brake can be equipped on the other output shaft.

  • Patent number: 4869353
Abstract: In an inertia lock- and key-type synchronizing clutch assembly, engagement between conical clutch surfaces (29, 36) of a clutch gear (28) and synchronizer ring (35) is enhanced spontaneously under a servo action by a cam means disposed between the synchronizer ring (35) and a hub member (31). Two problems arising from the servo action are solved by additional structures provided to a key member (39) and to the synchronizer ring. That is, an unexpected spontaneous engagement of the clutch mechanism from a neutral condition thereof is prevented with certainty by a cooperation of the key member and a pair of stopper projection (48, 49) on the synchronizer ring. The key member includes at an inner surface thereof a recess (50) for permitting a rotational displacement of the sychronizer ring when a clutch-engaging operation is performed.

  • Patent number: 4748864
Abstract: A reversing gear assembly (13) for a marine angle drive comprises a horizontal input shaft (15), to be connected to a horizontally mounted engine (11) and an inclined output shaft (16) to be connected to the propeller shaft (12). Gear casing (14) includes an intermediate shaft (17) which extends parallel with the output shaft (16). The input shaft (16) fixedly mounts a cylindrical gear (22) which meshes with a forward drive conical gear (23) on the output shaft (16) and with a reverse drive cylindrical gear (25) on the intermediate shaft (17). Center of engagement between the cylindrical gears (22, 25) is located on the sole common perpendicular line of the input and intermediate shafts (15, 17). Reverse drive gear train further includes two meshing cylindrical gears (26, 24) on the intermediate and output shafts (17, 16). The gears (23, 24) on the output shaft (16) are selectively coupled to this shaft by clutch means (32).
