    Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit which forms a toner image on a surface of a medium, a fixing device which includes a heating member that heats the surface of the medium and a pressing member that comes in press-contact with the heating member through the medium to heat the back side of the medium, and a control unit which controls the temperature of a surface of the heating member on the side in contact with the medium to a temperature lower than the temperature of a surface of the pressing member on the side in contact with the medium.
