  • Patent number: 4869332
Abstract: A reverse drive for small vehicles in which an output shaft of a second motor, which is different from the internal combustion engine for running use, can be connected to the transmission line leading from the internal combustion engine to the rear wheel so as to rotate the rear wheel in reverse. The second motor is a starter motor capable of normal and reverse rotations, the normal rotation of the starter motor being transmitted to the internal combustion engine for driving use through a starting clutch, and the reverse rotation of said starter motor being transmitted to the power transmission line through a reverse clutch. Otherwise, the second motor may be a starter motor capable of rotating only in one direction. In this case, the output of the starter motor is transmitted to the output side of the power transmission line through a reverse transmission line while the output transmission line is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 4763538
Abstract: A reverse drive for small vehicles in which an output shaft of a starter motor disposed independently of a driving internal combustion engine can be coupled to a power transmission system between the internal combustion engine and a rear wheel in such a way that the rear wheel is driven in the reverse direction. The starter motor may be capable of normal and reverse rotations, the normal rotation of the starter motor being transmitted to the internal combustion engine through a starting clutch, and the reverse rotation of said starter motor being transmitted to the power transmission system through a reverse clutch. • Patent number: 4668116
Abstract: In a combustion engine, a flywheel is coupled to a crankshaft, the flywheel and crankshaft being in splined engagement. To eliminate play between the flywheel and crankshaft which occurs under conditions of torque fluctuation due to clearance between the meshing teeth, a deformable member is provided to reduce this clearance. The deformable member includes a bore with teeth therein also in mesh with the crankshaft teeth. In one embodiment, the deformable member is a hub on the flywheel compressed by an element movable against it by a bolt. Opposed tapered surfaces compress the deformable member as the bolt is tightened. In another embodiment, the deformable member is a separate element and is tapered and fits within a tapered inner surface on the bore of the flywheel. As the deformable member is pressed against the flywheel by the bolt, it is simultaneously compressed by the action of the opposed tapered surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4530681
Abstract: A motorcycle engine having a tensioning mechanism for a cam chain. The mechanism includes a guide on the slack side of the chain which is controlled by two spaced pivotally-mounted links. One of the two links is biased by a spring to tension the cam chain. A sliding rod mechanism prevents facile motion of the links to lessen tension in the cam chain while allowing free tightening. The links are of such proportional extent that the end of the guide nearest the driving sprocket provides the tensioning motion while the end of the guide adjacent the driven sprocket remains tangent thereto.
