  • Patent number: 5980675
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of honeycomb core structure is disclosed, which substantially comprises the step (a) of of feeding a starting continuous web or sheet of material; the step (b) of applying an adhesive to the sheet material along a plurality of spaced parallel bands; the step (c) of drying the sheet; the step (d) of forming a plurality of slits extending longitudinally of the sheet and interconnected by a transversely extending slit-devoid web portion; the step (e) of cutting the slitted sheet to a predetermined dimension across the slit-devoid web portion; the step (f) of piling a plurality of layers of the thus cut sheets upon one another in a stack with the adhesive bands on one of the adjacent sheets positioned out of registry with those on the other by half of a pitch between the consecutive bands on each sheet; the step (g) of compressively curing the stacked sheets; the step (h) of slicing the cured stack into individual elongated strips; and the step (i) of expanding the strips in a direct

  • Patent number: 5649455
Abstract: A vehicle steering wheel is provided with a shock-absorbing device collapsibly mounted in the center pad for absorbing shock energy generated upon a vehicle collision. The shock absorbing device comprises a honeycomb core structure preferably of steel or aluminum which has its core walls disposed in a direction in which shock energy is exerted. The honeycomb core structure has a cell size, a core wall thickness and a core height all selected to demonstrate a maximum shock-absorbing performance.

  • Patent number: 5326615
Abstract: A honeycomb core panel structure for use for instance as a lining or roofing in an automobile. The panel structure has cavities or pockets for receiving lamps or other fittings and includes an upper support plate member, a lower support plate member and an intermediate support plate member interposed between the upper and lower plate members and defining a bottom wall of each pocket. The lower support plate member has reinforcing extensions extending a predetermined distance into the region of the pockets.

  • Patent number: 4927358
Abstract: Apparatus for producing honeycomb panel comprising a heating chamber isolated by a wall from outer air and a plurality of drawout trays capable of being individually inserted into and withdrawn from the heating chamber through a plurality of openings formed in the wall. Each of these drawout trays has a work accommodating chamber connected to a vacuum source, a top opening of which can be hermetically closed by a flexible sheet that can be opened and closed. Also each of the drawout trays has block plates at the front and rear ends for closing the opening in the wall at every terminal positions when inserted and withdrawn.
