Abstract: An apparatus, method, system, computer program and product, capable of reducing the size of an original image. The method segments the original image into a first image and a second image, generates a first reduced size image from the first image, which includes a first target pixel having a value obtained using a first method, and generates a second reduced size image from the second image, which includes a second target pixel having a value obtained using a second method.

Abstract: Frames such as boxes or rectangles are recognized in image document data. A first determination process initially screens frames by applying a first set of criteria to select frame candidates. The first set of criteria includes a comparison of a dimension to a predetermined threshold value. A second determination process then further determines whether or not the selected frame candidates are true frames based upon a second set of criteria. For each frame candidate, a pair of a black pixel rectangle and a white pixel rectangle is determined. The second set of criteria includes at least some information on the black pixel rectangle and the white pixel rectangle.

Abstract: The character recognition apparatus incorporates a table recognition section. This table recognition section extracts circumscribing rectangles from connected components of black pixels on a whole surface of the image as an area where read image data are desired to be processed, sorts rectangles of character candidates and rectangles of frame candidates from the extracted circumscribing rectangles, fills the rectangles sorted as the character candidates with white pixels, recognizes and extracts frames as ruled lines from the rectangles which remain as the frame candidates.

Abstract: A document image is often accidentally placed at an undesirable angle during image scanning. In order to correct the orientation of the image document, an angle must be determined based upon the document image. In determining the angle, the document image is processed to reverse the brightness as necessary.

Abstract: A method and system for processing images. An input or scanned image is first processed into a plurality of rectangles. Using these rectangles, a rough classification process is performed to determine if the rectangles define character candidates, horizontal ruled line candidates, vertical line candidates, or form candidates. A processing of the form candidates is performed which allows the determination of whether the form has a regular shape such as a rectangular shape or an irregular shape which includes protrusions from a rectangular shape. The form candidates are analyzed in order to determine if they are irregular forms by constructing and analyzing one or more cores which define the form. After an irregular form is determined, a determination is made as to whether character candidates are inside of or outside of the form.
