Any one of transmission axes of the first and second polarizing plates is parallel to an orientation direction of liquid crystal molecules when no voltage is applied to the second electrode. When a formation surface of the second electrode is as a base level and a normal direction of the base level is set to 0 degrees, light from the backlight unit has a peak of the intensity of light at an angle different from 0 degrees in a visible light region.
