  • Publication number: 20080040736
Abstract: The apparatus has a carriage that holds a head, a carriage-driving mechanism having a motor, and a holding mechanism configured to press a recording medium to a medium-holding base. The holding mechanism has a pair of arm members and a pushing member secured to the arm members. A spring urges the holding mechanism toward the medium-holding base. The carriage can move to a first region and farther to as second region. In the first region, the head can read data from the recording medium. The apparatus has a sliding member that moves together with the carriage while the carriage remains in the second region. When the carriage moves to the second region and moves together with the carriage, the pushing member moves away from the medium-holding base.

  • Publication number: 20080003040
Abstract: According to an aspect of the present invention, a thermal printer includes a housing in which a space is formed, printing means disposed in the housing, a cover disposed in the housing and which comes into contact with and separates from the housing when rotated, thereby opening and closing the space, urging means for urging the cover in a direction away from the housing, an engaging part which is disposed in the housing and which prevents the movement of the cover in a direction away from the housing when engaged with the cover, a pressed part which is disposed rotatably in the cover and which moves the engaging part when pressed, thereby releasing engagement between the cover and the engaging part, and elastic means arranged to urge the pressed part in a direction away from the engaging part.

  • Publication number: 20080003041
Abstract: A thermal printer includes a first thermal head, a first platen roller, first biasing means, a second thermal head, a second platen roller, and second biasing means. The first thermal head, the first platen roller, the first biasing means are in contact with a heat-sensitive layer of thermal recording paper. The second thermal head, the second platen roller, and the second biasing means are in contact with a heat-sensitive layer of the thermal recording paper. The second thermal head is arranged on the upstream side of the first thermal head in a paper feed direction. A paper feed speed of the first platen roller to the thermal recording paper is larger than a paper feed speed of the second platen roller. The first platen roller is in contact with the thermal recording paper while being more slippery compared with the second platen roller.

  • Patent number: 7011464
Abstract: A printer having a hopper without shaft which performs a print operation on a roll of continuous paper. Detection marks are provided in flanges provided in supported members removably attached to the continuous paper, and the presence/absence of the detection mark in a detection position of an optical sensor is determined. A rear end of the continuous paper in the hopper is determined if the result of determination of the presence/absence of the detection mark during conveyance of the continuous paper is the same. A passage length from the position of the determined rear end of the continuous paper to a print unit is equal to or longer than a predetermined maximum print size. By this arrangement, the rear end of the continuous paper can be detected without upsizing the apparatus and without complicating the structure, and the continuous paper can be effectively utilized without causing shortage of the continuous paper during execution of print operation.

  • Publication number: 20040175221
Abstract: A printer comprising a printing section which performs a printing operation for receipt paper, a slider whose surface forms a paper conveying path for the conveyance of the receipt paper after printing, and a conveyance section which conveys the receipt paper after printing by means of a conveyor belt, the conveyor belt being stretched between and entrained on a driving pulley which is rotationally driven and a driven pulley and located at a position at which it comes into abutment against the slider through the paper conveying path, wherein the slider is formed so as to make almost uniform a pressing force applied from the conveyor belt, and the conveyor belt slips relative to the receipt paper when the movement of the receipt paper being conveyed is obstructed. According to this construction, when the movement of the receipt paper is obstructed, the receipt paper stands by between the conveyor belt and the slider, so that occurrence of paper jam can be surely prevented.
