  • Publication number: 20120036284
Abstract: [Object] To determine the digital interface of a connected external device at a circuit, whereby the operation of a data transmission unit can be switched in accordance with the digital interface of the connected external device. [Solution] A control unit 123 of a sink device 120 includes a determining unit 124. This determining unit 124 determines whether or not a source device 110 is connected to this sink device 120, whether or not the digital interface of a data transmission unit 112 of the source device 110 is HDMI standard or new standard, and so forth. In the event that a data reception unit 122 can handle both of HDMI standard and new standard, based on the determination result of the determining unit 124, a control unit 123 switches the operation of the data reception unit 122 so as to perform operation in accordance with the digital interface of the data transmission unit 112 of the source device 110.

  • Publication number: 20100033627
Abstract: [Object] To make it possible for the reception side to carry out an optimum process for an image signal (image data) depending upon the type of a content. [Solving Means] An AV system 40 composed of an HD recorder 41 and a display unit 42 uses a communication interface of the HDMI. An HDMI source 53 of the HD recorder 41 transmits image data (image signal) in the form of differential signals to an HDMI sink 61 of the display unit 42 through three TMDS channels. The HDMI source 53 inserts content identification information for the identification of the type of a content of image data to be transmitted into an AVI InfoFrame packet placed in a blanking period. A control section 64 of the display unit 42 controls operation of a display processing section 62 which carries out a process for displaying for the image data based on the content identification information (ITC, CT1 and CT0) received by the HDMI sink 61 and a display section 63 for displaying an image.

  • Publication number: 20090268306
Abstract: A zoom lens includes a first lens group including at least one positive lens and having a positive refractive power as a whole, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a positive refractive power, and a fourth lens group having a positive refractive power wherein the first to the fourth lens groups are arranged sequentially from a subject. When magnification is varied from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, the second lens group is moved along an optical axis from the subject-side to an image plane. When given conditions are fulfilled, a small zoom lens with less manufacturing costs, high optical performance, and high magnification is realized.

  • Patent number: 5650827
Abstract: A display microcomputer displays a menu corresponding to several functions, such as picture-in-picture display and satellite broadcast reception on a mini-viewing screen that is part of the cathode-ray tube picture screen of a television receiver. A remote controller permits selection of different video and audio signal sources and, if the user selects sources that are incompatible or inconsistent, a system controller returns the menu to the condition prior to the incorrect selection. The system controller also controls a display microcomputer in such a way that items on the menu that are inhibited from selection are displayed in halftone. That is, if any inhibited item appears in the menu by a modification of the mode of operation, the display microcomputer is controlled so that the menu is returned to the condition prior to the selection and the inhibited item is displayed in halftone.

  • Patent number: 5649094
Abstract: An electronic apparatus is adapted for realizing desired functions by combining a number of functional devices, in which the trouble states of the functional devices may be identified speedily and positively by virtue of its self-diagnostic function. Control data are periodically transmitted from a system controller 41 connected over an I.sup.2 bus for operating the functional devices, such as a video processing circuit 33 or an audio processing circuit 37. The functional devices are checked for malfunctions at each control cycle of transmitting the control data from the system controller to the functional devices for collectively displaying the checked results of malfunctions of the functional devices during the self-diagnostic mode operation.

  • Patent number: 5539474
Abstract: In order to reduce nonuniform deterioration of a display screen, such as a fluorescent screen, an image reproducing system such as a television receiver is so arranged that the position of a small picture is shifted automatically. The small picture may be a picture displayed on a larger display screen with blank margins, or a sub-picture displayed in a larger picture, or an image of alphanumeric data items. For example, a 4:3 aspect ratio picture is displayed in a 4:3 center section of a 16:9 wide aspect ratio screen between left and right blank margins. In this case, the system comprises a control section, such as a microcomputer, for determining whether a special display mode to display a small picture is selected or not, each time the power supply is turned on, and for shifting the position of the small picture in the larger screen when the special display mode is selected.

  • Patent number: 5436675
Abstract: A television receiver capable of displaying the condition, i.e., ON or OFF, of the power supply which supplies electric power to an external BS (broadcasting satellite) reception converter, together with the reception level at the BS antenna. The level at the antenna is detected by a level detector circuit (27) according to the output from a BS tuner (23) and displayed on the CRT (36). A power supply circuit (20) which supplies electric power to the external BS converter is switched on by a power switch (46). A system controller (41) detects the condition of this power switch and displays this condition together with the antenna reception level.

  • Patent number: 5422681
Abstract: In a satellite broadcast receiving apparatus, when a signal reception is commenced, a receiving condition of an antenna input signal is detected under such a condition that a power supply to a down-converter is interrupted, and the power from a power source is supplied to the down-converter based upon the receiving condition. A simultaneous power supply to the down-converter can be prevented, and a co-distributing system can be reliably established in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 5416534
Abstract: In a monitor apparatus for a television system, a dynamic range of a brightness level of an image quality is widened, and an image very similar to a picture of a movie film is represented on the monitor apparatus. With employment of the YM function for performing the half blanking process by controlling the gain of the video processor, for instance, when an image quality mode such as "theater" mode is selected, the video processor outputs such a control signal that the overall picture period becomes an H level (namely, YM function is turned ON). In the video processor into which such a control signal is inputted, the gain control is carried out. The video signal outputted from the video processor owns such a waveform that the half blanking process has been executed over the entire picture period. The brightness of the overall image can be lowered by this YM function.

  • Patent number: 5313282
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling electrical power to a satellite broadcast receiver forming a part of a television device. The television device receives a command receiving a command (e.g. from a remote controller) to turn off electrical power. The television device determines if broadcast satellite recording is currently being executed, for example by an external VTR connected to an output port of the television device. If broadcast satellite recording is being executed, power is turned off power to a portion of the television device while retaining electrical power to the satellite broadcast receiver. If broadcast satellite recording is not being executed, power is turned off to the broadcast satellite receiver also.
