  • Patent number: 6682276
Abstract: A machine tool is provided which is constructed so that a table pivot mechanism and cables such as a power supply line connected to the pivot mechanism are protected from chips and a coolant. The machine tool comprises: a column movable along the X-axis on a bed (11); a main spindle (12) supported by the column via a spindle head and vertically movable along the Y-axis; and a rotatable table (13) which is movable back and forth with respect to the main spindle (12) along the Z-axis on the bed (11). The table (13) is pivotally supported by a table frame which is movable along the Z-axis along slideways provided on the bed (11). A pivot mechanism such as including a servo motor and a reduction gear mechanism for pivoting the table (13) is provided on an outer side of the table frame. The bed (11) has a center trough in which a chip conveyer (18) is provided. The slideways and the table pivot mechanism are completely separated from a machining space by movable covers (22).

  • Patent number: 6530300
Abstract: The present invention provides a machine tool which is adapted to discharge chips brought into the work area from the machining area outside the machine tool by a simpler operation. The machine tool (1) comprises a bed (51), a column (52), a spindle head (53), a table (54), a pallet base (63) and a pallet changer (11), wherein the spindle head (53) and the table (54) are movable relative to each other along three orthogonal axes. In the machine tool (1), a chip conveyor (10) having a transport path located below a machining area (A) and a work area (B) is provided for conveying chips. Thus, chips generated in the machining area (A) and chips brought into the work area (B) from the machining area (A) are collected on the chip conveyor (10), and conveyed and discharged outside the machine tool (1) by the chip conveyor (10).

  • Patent number: 5423643
Abstract: This invention provides a tool clamping/unclamping device which allows a tool to be replaced simply and securely by another one in short time, and which prevents a lock nut from being loosened, from yielding a difference in phase, and from dropping off with respect to a main shaft. The tool clamping/unclamping device comprises a tool urging means for holding a tool holding member in its clamped state, a nut positioning means for adjusting the lock nut in its phase in rotation angle position with respect to the main shaft, a nut drop-off preventing means for regulating the amount of rotation angle of the nut, a nut loosening detection means for detecting the position of the nut in the direction of the main shaft, and/or a locking mechanism for engaging a steel ball urged by a spring with a lock hole to thereby lock the lock nut in the direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5344260
Abstract: A tool holder is detachably secured to the lower end of a main spindle by means of a clamping nut having a female screw cooperating with a male screw of the main spindle such that keys are inserted into corresponding key recesses formed in an upper end face of the tool holder. Within the main spindle, there is arranged a driving shaft movably in an axial direction. Within the tool holder, a piston member is arranged movably in the axial direction. To a lower end of the driving shaft is provided a projection having a circular recess formed in an outer surface thereof. To an upper end portion of the piston member are secured a plurality of steel balls movably in a radial direction. A lower end of the piston member is formed as an inclined surface which is engaged with a cam surface of a tool fitting plate arranged movably in the radial direction.
