  • Patent number: 4809960
Abstract: A bushing assembly for use in a suspension of an automotive vehicle. The bushing assembly is comprised of inner and outer cylinder members which are coaxial and spaced from each other. An elastic member and a rigid sleeve member are disposed between the inner and outer cylinder members. A sliding member is disposed between the inner cylinder member and the rigid sleeve member in order to reduce torsion spring effect of the elastic member. The sliding member is prevented from its axial displacement upon contacting with a radially outwardly extending retainer section formed in the inner cylinder member. Additionally, a generally cap-shaped seal rubber is provided to accomplish seal between the end section of the rigid sleeve member and the end section of the inner cylinder member.

  • Patent number: 4810002
Abstract: A double link type front suspension system for an automotive vehicle of the front engine front drive type or the four wheel drive type is comprised of upper and lower control arms for swingable connecting a knuckle for rotatably supporting a front wheel to a vehicle body. A curved extension bracket is provided to rotatably connect the knuckle upper section with the upper control arm. The extension member is movably connected at its upper end section with the outboard end section of the upper control arm and rotatably connected at its lower end section with the knuckle upper section. The relative rotation between the extension member and the knuckle upper section is made around a straight line (steering) axis) passing through a ball joint for connecting the knuckle lower section and the lower control arm, thereby making it possible to set the steering axis regardless of the upper control arm.

  • Patent number: 4756517
Abstract: A strut suspension for an automotive vehicle has its upper end connected to a suspension support which allows the upper end of the suspension strut to shift in a direction oblique to the longitudinal axis of the strut in response to vertical movement of a vehicle wheel. Shifting of the upper end of the strut is controlled by means of a link member rotatably connected to the upper end of the strut. The link member is rotatably connected to the suspension support. This structure ensures negative camber during roll-steer, anti-dive characteristics, and weak under-steer, and suppresses harshness by providing a suspension geometry which optimizes suspension characteristics depending upon the vehicle driving conditions.

  • Patent number: 4483521
Abstract: A vibration damper of viscous damping type for damping low-frequency (10 to 20 Hz) vibrations has at least one subpassageway oblique to the axis of a main passageway. Since vortexes are generated around the main passageway as damping fluid passes through the subpassageway, the fluid can effectively reciprocate through the main passageway in response to pressure gradients induced by the vortexes, thus increasing the damping force generated as the fluid flows through the main passageway. Further, since the frequency at which the maximum flow rate, that is, the maximum damping factor can be obtained is determined on the basis of the dimensions of a passageway, the dimensions of the main passageway and the subpassageway are selected so as to match the maximum-flow-rate frequency of the subpassageway with that of the main passageway.

  • Patent number: 4420060
Abstract: An engine mounting arrangement includes elastomeric mounting blocks interposed between laterally extending arms connected to the engine and brackets fixed to a cross member of the chassis near the outboard ends thereof. The blocks are adapted to undergo shear upon the engine rolling about an essentially longitudinal axis. The arrangement further includes a mounting unit including an elastomeric chamber defining member which readily undergoes shear without changing the volume the chamber which it defines when the engine rolls but which undergoes a volume change upon the engine bouncing or vibrating in the vertical direction. The volume change pumps working fluid from the chamber to a second variable volume chamber and vice versa through a flow restriction so that vertical movement of the engine is strongly damped but rolling readily permitted. The arrangement further minimizes the transmission of vibration from the engine to the chassis and the tendency of the cross member per se to be vibrated.

  • Patent number: 4392640
Abstract: A vibration absorber for an automotive vehicle which can prevent the shuddering phenomenon even while the vehicle is gradually accelerated or decelerated. The rubber member thereof is provided with multistep elasticity characteristics such that a first shearing portion of the rubber member is first deformed in shear, a second shearing portion thereof is next deformed in shear, and the other portion thereof is lastly deformed under compression. To achieve the above-mentioned elasticity characteristics, some appropriately sized slots, cavities, or gaps are provided within the rubber member at appropriate positions within the rubber member.
