  • Patent number: 4280944
Abstract: A thermosetting polyurethane resin which when used as a one-pack surface-protective coating agent for glass bottles, inorganic vessels, and the like exhibits excellent mechanical strength, appearance, and water resistance at sterilization temperatures of about 90.degree. C. is obtained by interacting: (a) 10 to 40% by weight of at least two polyoxyalkylene polyols based on the weight of the nonvolatile matter of the thermosetting polyurethane resin, said at least two polyoxyalkylene polyols including 1 to 8% by weight relative to the nonvolatile matter of the thermosetting polyurethane resin of a nonionic surface active agent selected from the group consisting of a polyoxyethylene glycol or a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene glycol, and mixtures thereof, (b) a monofunctional isocyanate-blocking agent, (c) a chain-elongating agent, (d) a cross-linking agent, and (e) a mixture of methylene-bis (4-cyclohexylisocyanate) and iso-phorone diisocyanate at a molar ratio in the range of from 1:0.3 to 1:1.5.

  • Patent number: 4163814
Abstract: An aqueous dispersed urethane composition which is excellent in film-forming property and useful in protecting glass bottles when formed into a film can be obtained by producing a urethane oligomer by interacting a polyoxyalkylene glycol having a molecular weight equal to or above 1200, a low molecular weight chain-elongating agent selected from a glycol, an amino-alcohol and a diamine each having a molecular weight below 500, an isocyanate-blocking agent selected from an oxime, a lactam and an alcohol, and a diisocyanate, and dispersing the urethane oligomer and a hardener in water by the use of a surface active agent such that the sum by weight of the surface active agent contained in the aqueous dispersed urethane composition and the polyoxyalkylene glycol which is one of the starting materials for the production of the urethane oligomer is in the range of 15 to 35% of the sum by weight of the surface active agent, the urethane oligomer and the hardener.

  • Patent number: 4123412
Abstract: A thixotropic urethane-base sealing material comprising a base polymer selected from the group consisting of a urethane prepolymer and a mixture thereof with a polyol, prior to being hardened, colloidal silica or bentonite used as an anti-sag agent, and an additive used in synergistic combination with the anti-sag agent selected from the group consisting of a sulfoxide expressed by the formulaR.sup.1 SOR.sup.2wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent lower alkyl, and an amide expressed by the formulasR.sup.3 CONR.sup.4 R.sup.5and ##STR1## wherein R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 independently represent hydrogen or lower alkyl, whereby the thixotropic properties of the base polymer are remarkably improved, and a process for producing said material.

  • Patent number: 4102001
Abstract: An apparatus comprises an elongated boring bar having a cutting edge at its front end, an assembly coupled to the boring bar for reciprocally moving the boring bar axially of a rotary kiln, and an assembly for rotating the boring bar. The boring bar is advanced into the kiln with the cutting edge retracted from the kiln wall and, upon clearing the tuyere dam of the kiln, the cutting edge is brought close to the kiln wall by rotating the boring bar. The boring bar is then advanced again to scrape off and remove solid deposits from the kiln wall.
