  • Publication number: 20060033870
Abstract: A reflective liquid crystal display device has at least one anti-reflection layer made of a metallic film and a silicon oxynitride film that exhibits low reflectivity against light beams which may otherwise be incident into pixel switching transistors. At least one pair of pixel switching transistor and a capacitor are formed on a semiconductor substrate. The transistor and the capacitor are electrically isolated from each other. A first interlayer insulating layer is formed on the transistor and the capacitor. A wiring layer is formed on the first interlayer insulating layer. A second interlayer insulating layer is formed over the wiring layer. A light shielding layer is formed on the second interlayer insulating layer. A third interlayer insulating layer is formed over the light shielding layer. At least one pixel electrode is formed on the third interlayer insulating layer. A common electrode is formed over the pixel electrode. A light-transmissive substrate is formed on the common electrode.

  • Patent number: 5978056
Abstract: An active circuit element substrate is provided with a matrix array of active circuit elements. Each of the active circuit elements includes 1) a switching element, 2) a capacitor, 3) an electrically-conductive portion connecting the switching element and the capacitor, 4) an insulating layer covering the switching element, the capacitor, and the electrically-conductive portion, and 5) a reflective electrode layer connected to the electrically-conductive portion and extending on the insulating layer. The insulating layer has a surface flat so as to agree with a mirror finished surface. The reflective electrode layer extends on the surface of the insulating layer. A transparent common electrode film extends on a surface of a transparent substrate. An optical modulation layer is located between the reflective electrode layers on the active circuit element substrate and the common electrode film on the transparent substrate.

  • Patent number: 5801400
Abstract: An active matrix device has switching transistors arranged into a matrix pattern on a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type. Data is supplied, via signal lines, to sources of the transistors. Turn-on and -off operation of the of the transistors are controlled via gate lines. Pixel electrodes are connected to drains of the transistors. The active matrix device also has semiconductor regions of a second conductivity type opposite to the first conductivity type. The semiconductor regions are formed on the semiconductor substrate so that the semiconductor regions are separated from each other by portions of the semiconductor substrate. The transistors are formed in the semiconductor regions. The semiconductor substrate and the semiconductor regions are reverse-biased with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 5767827
Abstract: A reflective type active matrix display panel having pixel electrodes formed on a substrate is manufactured as follows: an insulating film is formed all over the substrate including the pixel electrodes; the surface of the insulating film is planarized by use of a polishing material including an etchant for etching the insulating film; and a reflective layer and a liquid crystal layer are formed on the planarized insulating film. The surfaces of the pixel electrodes are also planarized to have only the liquid crystal layer formed on the planarized pixel electrodes. The display panel has pixel transistors arranged into a matrix pattern on the substrate. Connected to the transistors are pixel electrodes and wirings arranged into a matrix pattern Signals are applied to the pixel electrodes via the wirings. The transistors, pixel electrodes, and wirings are provided in a display pixel area on the substrate. The display panel also has drive circuits for scanning the signals, formed around the display pixel area.
