Patent number: 6982852Abstract: A magnetic disk drive having a high recording density and enabling high speed transfer is achieved by reducing vibration of a carriage arm assembly to reduce a positioning error. The disk drive is configured so that a carriage arm is configured by two arm portions, the arm portions being coupled to each other by a restraint member through a viscoelastic material, the restraint member being supported on a carriage body or an area of the carriage arm in the vicinity of the body by means of adhesion or a viscoelastic material. By providing a high damping effect against various vibration modes in which in-plane bending and out-plane bending of the carriage arm are generated, vibration of the carriage arm assembly is suppressed, so that the positioning error is reduced, thereby the magnetic disk drive having a high recording density can be achieved.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2003Date of Patent: January 3, 2006Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Japan, Ltd.Inventors: Shin Nagahiro, Masahiko Sega, Toshihiro Arisaka, Toshihiko Shimizu, Hiromitsu Masuda, Tetsuya Hamaguchi, Gentaro Nakamura, Takenori Atumi

Publication number: 20050225895Abstract: Embodiments of the invention efficiently improve the stray field robustness without changing the size or weight of the drive on a large scale. Because a stray field concentrates on a magnetic field element, a symptom in which already recorded data is erased is prevented. According to one embodiment, in a magnetic recording system that uses a perpendicular recording medium having a soft magnetic under layer, a soft magnetic shield is provided on an upper part and a side of a slider on which a magnetic head is mounted, and a distance C between the shield and the medium is made smaller than a distance A or B between the shield and the slider.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2005Publication date: October 13, 2005Applicant: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Yasutaka Nishida, Ikuya Tagawa, Toshihiko Shimizu

Patent number: 6879467Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a carriage arm assembly including a carriage arm having two arm members. The arm member is constructed in such a way that the width of its coil side end and the width of its suspension side end are narrower than that of its intermediate area. This construction widens a servo band width, improves positioning accuracy, and reduces positioning errors of a magnetic disk apparatus, so that recording density is improved and storage capacity is increased. Further, by coupling two arm members using a restriction member via a visco-elastic member, it is possible to achieve a high damping effect on various vibration modes including in-plane bending of the arms, and suppress vibration of the carriage so as to reduce the positioning errors.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2002Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Japan, Ltd.Inventors: Toshihiko Shimizu, Tetsuya Hamaguchi, Toshihiro Arisaka, Hiromitsu Masuda, Gentaro Nakamura, Takenori Atsumi

Publication number: 20050030107Abstract: Power amplifier circuits which constitute an RF power module used for a digital device capable of handling high frequency signals in two frequency bands are disposed over the same IC chip. The power amplifier circuits are disposed around the IC chip, and a secondary circuit is disposed between the power amplifier circuits. Thus, the power amplifier circuits are provided within the same IC chip to enable a size reduction. Further, the distance between the power amplifier circuits is ensured even if the power amplifier circuits are provided within the same IC chip. It is therefore possible to suppress the coupling between the power amplifier circuits and restrain crosstalk between the power amplifier circuits.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2004Publication date: February 10, 2005Inventors: Toshihiko Shimizu, Yoshikuni Matsunaga, Yuri Kusakari

Publication number: 20040145034Abstract: A semiconductor device for amplification with enhanced performance is provided for use at a base station. The semiconductor device has a semiconductor chip for amplification and a transmission line substrate in the package of an amplifier used at a base station for mobile communication equipment such as a mobile phone. Stubs formed in the empty region of the transmission line substrate are connected to an output of the semiconductor chip for amplification by using bonding wires. The stubs and the bonding wires have been designed to form a resonant circuit resonating at a frequency double the fundamental frequency of an output signal from the semiconductor chip for amplification. This suppresses a doubled-frequency-wave signal of the signal outputted from the semiconductor chip for amplification and achieves an improvement in the transmission efficiency of the amplifier and a reduction in transmission distortion.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 9, 2004Publication date: July 29, 2004Inventors: Toru Fujioka, Toshihiko Shimizu, Isao Yoshida, Mamoru Ito, Koji Odaira, Tetsuya Iida
