Patent number: 5338604Abstract: Fishing rod stock is manufactured by winding three prepreg sheets around a mandrel to form three resin layers including high strength fibers. The first resin layer is formed over an entire axial length of the fishing rod stock. The second resin layer is formed on a rearward portion of the fishing rod stock. The third resin layer is smaller than the second resin layer and formed on a rearward region of the fishing rod stock. The high strength fiber of the second resin layer has a higher modulus of elasticity than the high strength fiber of the first resin layer. The high strength fiber of the third resin layer has a higher modulus of elasticity than the high strength fiber of the second resin layer. The high strength fibers of the second and third resin layers progressively increase in quantity toward a rear end of the fishing rod stock.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Shimano Inc.Inventor: Toshihiko Yasui

Patent number: 5317828Abstract: A grip of a fishing rod has an outer layer mounted eccentrically on a core member extending from a reel seat support rearwardly toward a butt end, and an intermediate member disposed between the core member and the outer layer. The intermediate member is more elastic than the core member and less elastic than the outer layer. The core member is formed by placing and bonding together a parallel fiber type primary prepreg sheet and a parallel fiber type secondary prepreg sheet one over the other. The secondary prepreg sheet is smaller than the primary prepreg sheet axially of the core member. The primary and secondary prepreg sheets have fiber orientations crossing each other at a bias angle.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Shimano Inc.Inventor: Toshihiko Yasui

Patent number: 5311695Abstract: A fishing rod has rod stock, and fixed guides formed on the rod stock. Each guide includes an annular line guide element formed of a material having excellent wear resistance, a tubular element mounted on the rod stock, a frame formed integral with the tubular element for supporting the line guide element, and a pair of sleeves mounted on the rod stock. The sleeves are arranged axially of the rod stock with the tubular element placed in between. Each sleeve defines an outer surface having an arcuate sectional shape gently tapered to approach an outer surface of the rod stock as it extends away from the tubular element.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1993Date of Patent: May 17, 1994Assignee: Shimano Inc.Inventor: Toshihiko Yasui

Patent number: 5181336Abstract: A fixed guide mounting structure for connecting a fixed guide to a fishing rod includes a mounting seat formed on a predetermined position of the rod. The mounting seat has a larger diameter than fore and aft portions axially of the rod. The mounting seat defines an engaging groove engageable with proximal portions of the fixed guide for limiting circumferential movement of the fixed guide.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1991Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Shimano, Inc.Inventor: Toshihiko Yasui
