  • Patent number: 6155863
Abstract: An electrical connector is provided for mating with a complementary mating connector and is adapted for manipulation by a vacuum-suction nozzle. The connector includes a housing mounting a plurality of terminals and including a surface area of a size sufficient for engagement by the vacuum-suction nozzle. An opening is provided in the surface area for receiving a portion of the mating connector. A frangible seal hermetically seals the opening to allow the vacuum-suction nozzle to apply negative air pressure to the surface area over the opening. The seal is breakable to allow the portion of the mating connector to enter the opening.

  • Patent number: 6142790
Abstract: An electrical connector is provided for interconnecting a pair of generally parallel flat circuits and includes a dielectric housing adapted for mounting on a first flat circuit. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing and are spaced therealong. Each terminal includes a base anchored in the housing. A tail extends from one end of the base for connection to an appropriate conductor on the first flat circuit. A cantilevered beam extends from an opposite end of the base and terminates in a U-shaped joint. A contact arm extends from the U-shaped joint back over the cantilevered beam and terminates in a contact portion for engaging an appropriate conductor on a second flat circuit. The cantilevered beam includes a first bowed portion projecting toward the first flat circuit and a second bowed portion projecting toward the second flat circuit.

  • Patent number: 6139340
Abstract: Disclosed is a connector equipped with an improved ejection mechanism wherein the ejection mechanism includes an ejection rod and a push button directly mounted to the end of the ejection rod for movement between an operative and an inoperative position. The ejection rod has a rectangular flat head formed at one end thereof, and the push button has a corresponding head-retaining space formed therein for receiving the rectangular flat head of the ejection rod. The head-retaining space forms a generally L-shaped slot and includes a first head-holding section extending in a direction generally along the longitudinal dimension of the push button, and a second head-holding section extending generally perpendicular to the first head-holding section. The push button is in its operative position when the head of the ejection rod is in the first head-holding section, and the push button is in its inoperative position when the head of the ejection rod is in the second head-holding section.

  • Patent number: 6135785
Abstract: An electrical connector for mating with a complementary component includes an insulative housing having a receptacle for receiving a portion of the complementary component and a plurality of terminal receiving cavities for receiving terminals therein. A plurality of generally planar conductive terminals are stamped from sheet metal material of a predetermined thickness, with each terminal having a predetermined thickness generally equal to the thickness of the sheet metal material from which it is stamped. Each of the terminals is mounted in one of the cavities. The terminals include a generally rigid base having a base width parallel to the plane of the terminal, a solder tail extending from the base, a retention section for securing the terminal within the housing and an L-shaped contact portion extending from the base. The L-shaped contact portion include first and second legs connected at a juncture portion.

  • Patent number: 5971788
Abstract: An electrical connector has improved locking characteristics for mating with an opposing complementary connector component. The connector has an insulative housing with a series of walls defining a mating space which receives the complementary connector component. Terminals are arranged in the mating space to interconnect with the complementary connector component. Sidewalls have two distinct inner and outer sections wherein the inner sidewall section are flexible and include an engagement surface for engagement with the complementary connector component.

  • Patent number: 5876217
Abstract: A connector assembly with improved retention characteristics includes opposing plug and receptacle connector housings, each containing conductive terminals. The terminals of one of the connector housings, preferably the plug connector housing include body portions with separate contact and locking portions extending upwardly therefrom and spaced apart from each other define a nest therebetween. The nest receives a portion of the other connector housing and the terminal contact and locking portions engage opposing sides of the other connector housing portion. The contact portions fictionally engage the other connector housing terminals while the locking portions positively engage recesses formed in the other connector housing.

  • Patent number: 5735696
Abstract: A connector which is particularly suitable for angled, surface mount connections has improved anti-solder and/or flux wicking characteristics which substantially prevent the contamination of contact portions of the connector terminals. Terminals for the connector are provided which have a housing engagement portion at one end and a bifurcated portion at the other end. The bifurcated end portion includes a contact portion and a solder tail portion which are separated by an irregular intervening space of varying width. The depth and the varying width cooperate to prevent the wicking of molten solder and/or flux to the contact surface of the terminal.
