Abstract: To select broadcast stations for broadcasting in a language desired for viewing by a user as a list out of the broadcast stations for broadcasting with multiple audios. A channel scan is performed to airwaves over the entire frequency band, language information codes included in the airwaves transmitted from the broadcast stations are identified and stored by a microcontroller 4, and the broadcast stations are classified by the language information code and displayed as a list so as to easily grasp the broadcast stations for broadcasting in the language desired for viewing by the user.

Abstract: The invention provides a reproducing device or recording/reproducing device having an off-timer function with improved operability, power saving, versatility and degree of freedom for the user or a video display device incorporating such a reproducing device or recording/reproducing device. During an off-timer function operation, when reproduction of contents is detected (step 201), a contents reproducing time is calculated from TOC information (step 203, step 204), and when this contents reproducing time is shorter than a timer remaining time X of the off-timer, the timer time is regarded as a contents reproducing time (step 206, step 207), and in this way, when reproduction of contents is finished earlier than a predetermined timer time, power is turned off at the end of reproduction of contents and when the set timer time is longer than the contents reproducing time, the power is turned off at the end of the timer time.

Abstract: This invention provides a language setting method and a language setting apparatus capable of easily resetting a subtitle language or voice language to a user's desired language if a DVD player reproduces content data using the subtitle language or the voice language different from the initially set and user's desired language based on a navigation command recorded in a DVD disc. This invention provides a method and an apparatus for automatically resetting a desired language by operating a remote controller key only once when a reproduction language designated by a navigation command of a DVD disc differs from an initially set and user's desired language. This invention also provides a method and an apparatus for displaying the fact that the reproduction language designated by the navigation command recorded in the DVD disc differs from the initially set and user's desired language as an on-screen message, and for automatically resetting the desired language by operating the remote controller key only once.
