Abstract: A gateway apparatus has a first IP address for the first network and a second IP address for the second network. The gateway apparatus includes: an information provision unit for receiving, from a second apparatus having a third IP address over the first network, a first IP packet representative of a search request for information resources; and a search unit for transmitting over the second network a second IP packet representative of a search request for information resources which packet contains the second IP address as a source address and for receiving a third IP packet which contains a first information resource identifier representative of an information resource available with a third apparatus on the second network. The first information resource identifier contains a fourth IP address for the third apparatus.

Abstract: A gateway apparatus (100) is capable of connecting to an internal network (10) and an external network (50), and includes an information management unit (120) for managing a global IP address of the gateway apparatus and identification information for a device to be permitted to connect to the internal network. The information management unit transmits the global IP address and the identification information over the external network to an external apparatus. In response to a request received over the external network, the information management unit transmits a one-time password over the external network to the external apparatus.

Abstract: A system includes a plurality of data stream capture devices, one or more storage devices and a plurality of user devices, all of which are connectable to each other via a LAN. The user device transmits a request to the capture device in accordance with a user's request, and transmits a request to said storage device in accordance with a user's request. When it is determined that the capture device is tunable to a channel for a desired broadcast program, in accordance with a received request, the capture device is tuned to the channel, and receives and provides a data stream of the program. In accordance with a received request, the storage device records the data stream of the desired program from the capture device which is tuned to the channel. In accordance with a received request, the storage device transmits a desired recorded data stream.

The processor transmits, in response to reception of a request for a particular item of content, an identification of a security scheme which is applicable to transmission of the particular item of content in accordance with a license policy. When the item of content can be received by the user device in the security scheme, the processor transmits the item of content in the security scheme.

Abstract: A method of providing a service to a terminal device via the Internet from a service provision apparatus in response to access from the terminal device includes the steps of (a) establishing and maintaining connection between the service provision apparatus and a relay device specified by a global IP address on the Internet at a request for connection of the service provision apparatus so that the service provision apparatus and the relay device are in communication with each other via the Internet, (b) accessing the service provision apparatus for the service by way of the relay device from the terminal device connected thereto, and (c) providing the service from the service provision apparatus to the terminal device by way of the relay device.

Abstract: A contents sharing system for general purpose use is provided, in which devices share contents distributed via a network, and contents can be shared even among devices of private addresses. The contents sharing system comprises plural devices connected with each other via a network. Each of the devices includes storage means for storing contents, communication means for connecting to the network and process means for executing a software program. Each of the devices generates a communication packet containing an identifier unique to the device and information indicating whether a connection address of the device is a global address or a private address. When a first device having a private address obtains contents held by a second device that belongs to the contents sharing system and has a private address, a third device that belongs to the contents sharing system and has a global address works as a proxy for file transmission.

Abstract: A contents data transmission system is provided, which can perform download of contents data such as music or pictures with high flexibility while avoiding interference with other communications. A contents server at a transmission side stores contents data divided into plural blocks along the time axis direction and includes a contents structure block list. When a user system at a reception side designates contents to be downloaded, the contents server transmits the contents structure block list to the user system. A user uses the user system for scheduling block download, and the user system transmits a request for download with block designation to the contents server in accordance with the schedule. The contents server transmits the designated blocks sequentially to the user system in accordance with the request.
