  • Patent number: 5755028
Abstract: A method for producing a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine having a sealing surface on which a gasket is mounted, a number of cylinder bores arranged side by side, each cylinder bore opening to the sealing surface, a water jacket surrounding the cylinder bores, and a cooling passage located between the cylinder bores. A liner assembly is first formed by joining a set of cylinder liners with each other side by side. At least one of the liners has a recess that forms a space located between adjacent cylinder liners when the liners are joined. A cast body having the water jacket is molded by pouring molten metal into a mold after the liner assembly is positioned in the mold. The molten metal is prevented from entering the space during the molding process. The space is communicated with the water jacket to form the cooling passage.

  • Patent number: 5732671
Abstract: A method of manufacturing cylinder blocks. A cylinder block includes cylinder liners, the number of which corresponds to the number of cylinders in the engine, and a block body molded integrally with and about the cylinder liners. A liner assembly is formed by aligning cylinders in a single row and connecting the adjacent cylinder liners. A variable section provided between each pair of cylinders enables the distance between the axes of the outer cylindrical surface of each cylinder liner to be varied. The block body is molded by first arranging the liner assembly in a mold. Molten metal is then charged into the mold. When the metal solidifies, the block body is formed encompassing the liner assembly. A reference point on the block body is used to machine the inner cylindrical surfaces and form the cylinder bores.

  • Patent number: 4564168
Abstract: An upper support for a radiator wherein a body bracket and a radiator bracket are joined together by means of a rubber member which has at least one rubber prop on each side of a vertical bracket axis and has a cavity defined between the right and left rubber props. In the state before radiator assembly and also in the assembled state, the rubber props are inclined upwardly in a direction from the body bracket toward the radiator bracket. In this structure of the radiator upper support, a tensile force always works on the rubber props and accordingly there is no wide fluctuation in the dynamic spring constant.

  • Patent number: 4508072
Abstract: A sealing device for a timing belt cover and an engine mount bracket comprises a rib formed on said engine mount bracket and a gasket having a lip of C-shaped section and a fixed portion continuous from said lip. The fixed portion of the gasket is attached to a portion of the timing belt cover surrounding an opening provided in said timing belt cover and said lip of C-shaped section of the gasket is contact with said rib of the engine mount bracket. Since the gasket is made of an elastic material other than sponge, e.g. rubber, it does not undergo a permanent deformation and causes no gap between said lip and said rib. Besides, since said lip of C-shaped section is easily deformed, there is no likelihood of an excessive load being applied to said timing belt cover.
