  • Patent number: 4729660
Abstract: Light reflecting means 2R and 2L provided on both sides of a road 1 each reflect an incident light at the same angle as the angle of incidence with respect to the plane of incidence. Lights 8R and 8L emitted from a moving vehicle 3 are reflected from the light reflecting means 2R and 2L and returned again to the light emitting source and accordingly they are detected by light receivers 75R and 75L. The position of the moving vehicle 3 is calculated geometrically based on the moving distance of the moving vehicle 3 in a period obtained from the difference between the light receiving time of the light receiver 75R and that of the light receiver 75L or the light receiving angle as well as the moving direction of the moving vehicle 3 and the positions where the light reflecting means 2R and 2L are installed.

  • Patent number: 4570062
Abstract: An information transfer system for transferring information to a fixed position from a moving object. The information system includes a light beam scanning along the route of the moving object. The light beam is linearly deflected. The moving object is provided with a modulation-reflection apparatus which receives the linearly-deflected light and changes a rotary angle at a polarization surface based upon information from the moving object itself such as object number, destination, or running speed. This modulates the incident light and reflects it back in the direction from which it came. The reflected light from the modulation-reflection apparatus is received through a light-sensitive detection device which allows the light to pass corresponding to the rotary angle of the polarization surface. Consequently, information regarding the moving object is discriminated.

  • Patent number: 4570060
Abstract: A follow-up guidance and information transfer system is disclosed for use between a control point and a moving object utilizing a laser beam generated at the control point. The incident beam is directed by a movable mirror toward the moving object and reflected therefrom by a corner cube or the like along the same path. A detector disposed in the passing zone detects direction and amplitude of deviations of the reflected beam from the path of the incident beam, and a mirror control responds to the detected signals to direct the path of the incident beam to follow the moving object.

  • Patent number: 4488233
Abstract: A path indicating apparatus for indicating a path so that a moving vehicle movable in the horizontal and vertical directions, such as an aircraft, may move along such a predetermined path. The predetermined path is defined as an intersecting line of two scanning planes which are formed by scanning signals having a narrow beam width in a horizontal plane and a vertical plane, respectively. The vehicle is provided with a plurality of detectors arranged in the horizontal and vertical directions for detecting the signals being scanned in the horizontal and vertical planes, respectively, so that the detectors arranged in the vertical and horizontal directions may detect deviation of the vehicle in the horizontal and vertical planes, respectively. The vehicle is responsive to the detected signals from the respective detectors to determine the moving direction to be taken by the vehicle so that the vehicle may move along the path and the vehicle is steered responsive to the determined direction outputs.
