  • Patent number: 7061835
Abstract: A pull-in point setting circuit 16 sets the intermediate value between the maximum value and minimum value of the focus error signal of a layer 1 as the pull-in point of a focus servo action in advance of the playback of an optical disk 11. At a layer jump before the automatic adjustment of a focus bias, the focus servo action is pulled in at the set point. Thus, the layer jump can be reliably effected even before the adjustment of the focus bias.

  • Publication number: 20050186438
Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions containing reinforcing agents or fillers and carbon black, and made by a specific procedure are described. In certain instances when the reinforcing agents or fillers are more restricted, and other ingredients are present, electrically conductive compositions with very smooth surfaces, and suitable for auto panels and other uses wherein the part may be painted, are described. Also described are the processes of making such compositions, especially when a conductive filler is carbon black. Such compositions are useful for items such as appliance parts, automotive body panels, power tool housings, and electrical and electronic housings.

  • Patent number: 6775209
Abstract: In an optical disk apparatus, a sensitivity adjusting circuit measures a time between a reflection on a surface and a reflection on a recoding layer of an optical disk when moving an objective lens. This time is considered to be in accordance with sensitivity of an actuator during layer jumping, and thereby the magnitudes of a kick pulse and a brake pulse to be applied to the coil of the actuator is increased or decreased in accordance with the time between the reflection on the surface and the reflection on the recording layer. Thereby, the sensitivity dispersion of the actuator of the optical pickup is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6744709
Abstract: In advance of the playback of an optical disk 11, the peaks of a focus error signal are detected, and the reference values of the focus error signal are set on the basis of the values of the peaks. In executing a layer jump, a kick signal for an object lens 13a is stopped from being outputted when the focus error signal exceeds the reference value of one polarity. A brake signal is outputted when the focus error signal exceeds the reference value in the opposite polarity. A time period for which the brake signal is outputted, is set on the basis of a time period for which the kick signal has been outputted. After the stop of the output of the brake signal, the peak of the focus error signal is waited for, whereupon a focusing servo 21 is turned ON.

  • Publication number: 20040095859
Abstract: A bottom hold circuit generates a bottom hold signal (BH signal) from an RFDC signal from an RF amplifier, and sends it to a comparator. The comparator compares a reference level and the BH signal, and generates an Rfdet signal having H level if the BH signal was found to be lower than the reference level. The Rfdet signal is a signal having H level when a laser spot falls in a data-recorded area on an optical disk, and having L level when in a non-recorded area. When it was detected that Rfdet signal had H level throughout a single turn of the disk, a servo-processing microcomputer controls an optical pickup so as to apply tracking servo. This makes it possible to precisely detect a boundary position between the data-recorded area and non-recorded area. If the optical disk is decentered, the boundary area corresponded to the amount of decentering can successfully be isolated from the data-recorded area.

  • Publication number: 20030086347
Abstract: An objective lens of an optical pick-up is ascended from the disc Far position towards the disc Near position at a constant velocity, and a peak bottom detector detects levels between the peak to the bottom (peak-to-bottom levels) of focus error signals obtained during the focus movement. A servo processing microcomputer counts the number of focus error signals having a peak-to-bottom level not smaller than the predetermined minimum level, out of all peak-to-bottom levels obtained during the focus movement across the recording layer of a disc, and defines the count value as the number of the recording layers of the disc. This allows correct determination of the number of recording layers of recording medium while not being affected by variation in property of the instruments, variation in reflectivity of recording medium, variation in the ambient temperature and fake pulse corresponded to waviness in focus error signal.
