Abstract: An optical pickup apparatus including a motor, a rotary member connected to the motor, the rotary member having a movement part and a stop part, a lead member disposed on the rotary member such that the lead member moves along the movement part and stops at the stop part, and a lens connected to the lead member to correct an aberration. The motor to correct a spherical aberration of the optical pickup apparatus is used instead of a sensor to sense the position of the collimator lens during the movement of the collimator lens, thereby reducing costs. The collimator lens may be controlled by sensing the reference position of the collimator lens to correct a spherical aberration of an optical disc, thereby preventing damage to optical components due to malfunction of the collimator lens.

Abstract: An optical recording/reproducing apparatus includes a disc, a pickup to irradiate a laser beam to the disc and detect a reflected light of the irradiated laser beam, a controller to generate a tracking error signal from a signal of the reflected light and generate a control driving signal for track following by using the tracking error signal, a driving unit to perform tracking servo control by driving an actuator of the pickup according to the control driving signal, and an output unit to output an accelerating and decelerating control driving signal transmitted to the driving unit during the tracking servo control as a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal.

Abstract: A method of controlling an optical disc drive in which determining an organic optical disc using a tracking control polarity (in-groove polarity) of the organic optical disc and a reflection amount characteristic (low to high characteristic) after recording and improving the determination speed of the optical disc is possible. The method of controlling an optical disc drive includes detecting a first average value and a second average value of a differential phase detection tracking error (DPD TE) signal of a loaded optical disc, and determining the type of the loaded optical disc by comparison between the first average value and the second average value of the DPD TE signal.
