  • Publication number: 20150381734
Abstract: The present invention can shorten a response time required by a client computer to receive configuration information after transmitting a request for the configuration information to a storage system. A storage controller updates a plurality of pieces of configuration information based on control. A server computer transmits, to a storage controller, input information designating configuration information among the plurality of pieces of configuration information, according to a preconfigured schedule. The storage controller transmits output information including the configuration information inside the storage controller to a server computer based on the input information. The server computer receives output information, and stores the output information in association with the input information. Upon receipt of the input information from a client computer, the server computer transmits the output information associated with the received input information to the client computer.

  • Patent number: 9128819
Abstract: A storage system comprises multiple first storage apparatuses, and a controller which provides a first logical volume corresponding to a storage area of the multiple first storage apparatuses to a host computer. The controller partitions a storage area corresponding to the first logical volume into multiple first physical storage areas, manages the partitioned multiple first physical storage areas as physical storage areas of a storage pool, creates a first virtual volume which is provided to the host computer, and associates, from among the multiple first physical storage areas, a physical storage area in which user data is stored, with the first virtual volume.

  • Patent number: 9037927
Abstract: Events which have occurred in storage systems can be managed easily regardless of complexity of a storage configuration. An event notification system 1 includes: an event notifying client 133 for detecting the occurrence of an event(s) in volumes of a storage system 10; a management application server 20 for storing information about the occurred event as setting/failure information 21; and an event information aggregation server 30 for creating and managing event information 31 including an event key 311 for associating the occurred event with the setting/failure information 21. When the event information aggregation server 30 in such an event notification system 1 notifies an administrator terminal 50 of the event key 311 and an administrator selects the event key 311, the management application server 20 has the administrator terminal 50 display an event browse screen 52 indicating the relativity of a volume, in which the event occurred, to a volume in which a related event occurred.

  • Patent number: 8560799
Abstract: Multiple types of storage devices which have different performance are appropriately allocated to multiple virtual volumes in accordance with the performance requirements of the respective virtual volumes. In cases where, among virtual volumes 82 for which response times have been specified, there is a [virtual volume] that has a shortage of pages to which SSDs 70 should be allocated and that does not satisfy the performance requirement when its Tier boundary value ? is adjusted to Tier boundary value ?? and, if unallocated pages as the pages to which SSDs 70 should be allocated do not exist, Tier boundary value ? or Tier boundary value ? of another virtual volume is adjusted to Tier boundary value ?? or the Tier boundary value ??, and pages to which SSDs 70 are allocated are secured in the virtual volume 82 for which the Tier boundary value has been adjusted.

  • Patent number: 7949827
Abstract: This invention aims to optimize an entire storage system by equalizing the access counts in appropriate units. When migrating data in pool volumes to equalize the data access counts, which data migration—data migration in units of pages or data migration in units of volumes—is most appropriate is judged based on the information stored in an access information table storing access information, which is the information about the access counts for the data stored in the disk drives and, based on the judgment, data is migrated in units of pages or volumes so that the data access counts are equalized among groups. The data migration is repeated until the data access counts are equalized among the groups.
