Abstract: An information searching apparatus and method capable of producing good search results even in the case where specified search keywords are found separately on a plurality of documents. Upon receipt of a search request from a client, a first search process searches an index memory to find tentative search results. According to predetermined rules, it is determined to which group each tentative search result should belong. A second search process then searches documents at an upper hierarchical level in the same group, thus finding keyword hits in an upper-level document. A higher priority is then given to a group of documents in which the second search process has found keyword hits. Finally a list of locators is compiled and sent back to the requesting client to indicate the locations of relevant documents, where the locators are arranged in descending order of the display priority of corresponding groups.

Abstract: A world wide information network called the Internet is structured and the information distribution service via the network is now operating in which it is now possible to obtain and make reference to every type of information resources through connection to the Internet. However, the type of distributed information and environment of user terminal connected to such information distribution service are all diversified and therefore it is sometime impossible to process the information requested from the user in the user terminal even if such requested information is transmitted to the user terminal.

Abstract: A water pump for cooling an engine in which an impeller accommodated in a pump housing provided on an engine body is mounted on an end of a rotational shaft rotatably supported on the pump housing for enhancing the reliability of the mounting strength of the impeller while avoiding an increase in cost. A fitting recess for fitting an end of the rotational shaft having an outer circumferential surface which is straight in an axial direction at least in a portion on the impeller side is provided in a central portion of the impeller. A bolt inserted into the central portion of the impeller is threaded in a coaxial direction with the end of the rotational shaft in a state that is fitted in the fitting recess.

Abstract: A link-processing device for displaying a summary of linked information before the link is called up is disclosed. The link processing device includes an acquisition module, an extracting module, and a displaying module. The acquisition module acquires structured information containing: link-generating information for generating links between multiple resources; and predetermined supplemental information indicating characteristics of the resource. A setting is provided for whether all resources are to be acquired or not. Based on this setting at least one resource is acquired and displayed. If all resources are to be acquired, the extracting module extracts a section of each resource except for the resource display object and/or extracts from the structured information supplemental information regarding each resource except for the resource display object.

Abstract: A display process is carried out in high speed without changing a structure of a structured document. Within structural information of a structured document, a paragraph-forming element is obtained in which forming of a paragraph is designated in style definition information corresponding thereto. When the display information of the obtained paragraph-forming element is matched, a program for determining a relative layout of the respective display information within the paragraph is performed independent from a layout routine of another paragraph-forming element. Another program for visually outputting such display information of the paragraph-forming element whose layout routine is accomplished is carried out after the layout routines for all of the paragraph-forming elements located up-rank from the current paragraph-forming element have been accomplished.

Abstract: In an apparatus defining a style specification for visually outputting a structured document, a group of samples which have been confirmed as having no errors in the notation are registered in regard to the specification information required for style specification. The group of samples is presented to a user when the user defines the style. The user is then capable of selecting a sample corresponding to the desired element forming the document from the group of samples, and is also capable of using it directly. Alternatively, the style specification of each element is generated only by correcting the content to the desired content and a style sheet of the object document can be generated automatically from the generated style specification group.

Abstract: The present invention reads structured information previously obtained through analysis of a structured document and determines whether the input structured information provides information regarding structure elements (and showing the structure of the structured document) or provides content information. When the structured information provides information for structure elements, then style definition information required for display or printing is obtained and compared with corresponding display attribute information. When the style definition information and the display attribute information do not match, the style definition information is set to a buffer area for use by a display or printing apparatus, thereby to realize a high speed display or printing operation.

Abstract: The present invention provides an image display method for quickly displaying animation sequences corresponding to a keyword. The image display method displays a keyword and a still picture of one screen of an animation sequence representing the keyword on a screen, and when one of the keywords is designated, the animation sequences corresponding to the designated keyword are quickly displayed.

Abstract: An information display system has an information distribution apparatus (a server) for storing information, upon receipt of an information distribution demand, to distribute requested information to an information distribution requesting source, and an information display apparatus (a client) for displaying information distributed from the server on a display screen through requesting of the server information distribution. In the information display system, only a partial information to be displayed first at the client end is transmitted in form of a non-compression from the server to the client, and the remaining partial information is transmitted in form of a compression from the server to the client.

Abstract: An information providing apparatus identifies a transmission enabled band of a transmission line and selects information conforming to the band, thereby effectively utilizing the transmission band of the transmission line. The apparatus determined a period which is to be required before demanded information is provided and notifies it to the user as a wait period, whereby the apparatus is made convenient for the user to operate. The apparatus is disconnected from the line during the wait period, thereby reducing a waste of a line charge.
