Abstract: The present invention is a metal gasket for sealing a gas, liquid, etc. The metal gasket has a planar base (10) formed from a metal plate, and surface pressure generating materials (A) and (B) are attached to the obverse and reverse surfaces of the base (10) at the outer periphery of a hole in the base (10) which is to be sealed in such a manner that the positions of the attached surface pressure generating materials (A) and (B) are offset from each other. When the base (10) is clamped from both sides thereof, it is elastically deformed by being pressed through the surface pressure generating materials (A) and (B), thus generating surface pressure.
