  • Patent number: 5031448
Abstract: An exhaust valve for a supercritical fluid chromatography apparatus. The exhaust valve is a constant-pressure release valve which maintains the pressure inside the flow passage system of the apparatus constant. Eluates are discharged via the valve. An organic solvent effective at atmospheric pressures, such as toluene, dichloromethane, or benzene, which readily dissolves the analyzed sample at ordinary temperature, is introduced either in the flow passage on the upstream side of the valve or in the flow passage in the valve to prevent the flow passage in the valve from clogging.

  • Patent number: 4681513
Abstract: An accurately controllable two-stage pump assembly comprising two plunger pumps connected in series. The suction port of the outlet pump A is connected to the discharge port of the inlet pump B, so that the discharge port of the outlet pump A and the suction port of the inlet pump B act as the discharge port and the suction port, respectively, of the whole pump assembly. While the inlet pump B is delivering fluid from the whole pump assembly, the outlet pump A completes the filling stroke of the whole pump assembly and fully increases the pressure inside the chamber of the outlet pump A. While the inlet pump B is filling, the outlet pump A is in the stage of displacement stroke and delivers fluid from the whole pump assembly. The plungers of the pumps are moved via cams by stepper motors which swing or rotate back and forth within a certain angular range.

  • Patent number: 4639361
Abstract: Disilane Si.sub.2 H.sub.6 is obtained with good yield by reduction reaction of Si.sub.2 Cl.sub.6 with a mixture of LiH and LiAlH.sub.4 in an organic liquid medium such as n-butyl ether. Usually the reaction temperature is -25.degree. C. to 50.degree. C. A suitable range of the mole ratio of LiH to LiAlH.sub.4 is from 0.8 to 40. It is impracticable to reduce Si.sub.2 Cl.sub.6 to Si.sub.2 H.sub.6 by using LiH alone as the reducing agent, but the reaction proceeds smoothly when a LiH/LiAlH.sub.4 mixture is used. The use of the mixture is economically advantageous over the use of expensive LiAlH.sub.4 alone.
